Well some of the characters from the film in 1997 were loosely based off real people. The unsinkable Margaret Molly Brown for starters was a real passenger who survived.

I've always been fascinated by the 'mystery ship' theory on the night she sank. A ship was spotted 10 miles away whilst Titanic was sinking. It is most likely the 'SS Californian" was the ship. Another theory is Norwegian sealer Samson was in the area Sealing illegally and thought that the rockets Titanic were firing off were a warning to other ships that Samson was Sealing. And therefore sailed away and didn't come to the rescue of titanic.

The Californian was nearby and had stopped for the night. They were closer to the Titanic's location that night, but the communications officer had gone to bed that night - after his counterpart on the Titanic told him to shut up whilst sending/receiving messages - some of which were iceberg warnings.

Yea the film "A night to remember" covers this well. It's briefly in the deleted scenes in the 97 blockbuster.

Didn't the Californian officers on deck that night, think the titanic was celebrating something because of the color of the rockets .

Yep. Most of the modern ship regulations etc are based from what happened in 1912. In fact prior to 1912, ship regulations etc were seldom updated or changed anyway and there were no major changes for decades or in some cases centuries - keeping in mind humans, in particular England/Britain, have been sailing for well and truly over a thousand years if not longer.

I'm also guessing the next lot of regulation changes only came after that cruise ship capsized on the coast of Italy after the captain sailed too close to rocks.

I've looked into this again. Heardy_101 missed the main Olympic mishap on 20th September 1911; the collision with the cruiser HMS Hawke, whose bow ram (designed to sink smaller ships) punched a big hole in the Olympic's stern. The conspiracy theorists allege her keel was also damaged, amounting to massive repair costs. The switch theory still falls apart though. A good analysis is provided here:

Yep. I mean I've done plenty of research on the Olympic-class ships (Olympic, Titanic and Brittanic) as well as other White Star Line ships as well as the Titanic sinking and various mishaps with the Olympic, plus the short history of the Brittanic. This conspiracy does have a number of plausibles in it, however given the timeline as well as various facts, their easily refuted.

However never let the facts get in the way of a good conspiracy!

Didn't watch past the first 10 seconds. but assume its the titanic/olympic switcheroo theory. Pretty much proven false based of the fact the insurance on one ship wasn't enough to cover the other from memory. And a lot of other things.

I always thought the very damaged Olympic could never be in service till 1935, but the new Titanic as the Olympic would be sea worthy till 1935. This switch was very possible since the ships were practically identical. Excellent video! You should have mentioned the richest men that were on this maiden voyage were against the creation of the federal reserve bank, this plays a very important role also.

I can't remember what I've posted in this thread but the idea that the Olympic and Titanic were switched is completely false.

While they were "identical" to the naked eye, they were anything but when you looked at the finer details. Eg the Bridge, upper decks such as the A and Promenade decks.

The thing is, there are photos of the real Titanic still very healthy post-iceberg. The plates switched as they say
