The only thing I can remeber from Black Saturday is Brett Ebert missing his early set shot and Gary Ablett getting run down from behind.

It's amazing how the mind blocks out painful memories.

I could tell you about every minute of the 04 Pre Lim and GF.

and alcohol.

the thing that sticks out in my mind most from 119Gate is Surj running down Ablett in what should have been a clear holding the ball and going nuts and then discovering with the benefit of the replay the prick somehow got a handball out. Oh and Petters getting run down by Ottens, as well as Chapman taking a hanger on Tredders. Worst day of my life.

I miss Mahoney :(. And Schofield :(. And Roger :( :( :(.

Great game though. Say what you like about Mark Williams, but the man is passionate as hell about our great club. When he eventually retires, is sacked, moves on or whatever, I'm not going to remember the '07 GF and beyond Choco, I'm gonna remember the guy pumping the air with tears of joy in his eyes running through the crowd to celebrate the greatest moment (so far) in PAFC history.

Sensational post. I'm with you on this one

....Say what you like about Mark Williams, but the man is passionate as hell about our great club......
So are the people who sit around me at AAMI. Big deal! His passion is undoubted but his intention to hang on as long as he can and pocket every last cent overrides any credit he gets from that.

..... to celebrate the greatest moment (so far) in PAFC history.
For God's sake! A single win. We've had whole decades of dominance and HUGE wins (in their importance) over major rivals.
2004 was important in that we had so seriously squandered 2001-2003. But just because it was AFL doesn't dismiss our history from 1870 to that point.

I miss the Peter Burgoyne of the second half. It's such a shame he lost all interest in playing the game a couple of years ago. I'd rate him ahead of his brother as a player. Silky smooth when on his game.

Roger James, Carr, Hardwick, Monte, Brogan, there was a tough group of players who had the skill to compliment their aggression. That's what i really miss.

oh, i remember hearing Walls mention our forwards had 11 effective tackles in our forward 50 at some point in the fourth. That's the kind of forward pressure we need to be applying week in and week out.

I agree, Peter left his mark on our AFL era well ahead of Shaun. Mind you in the 2004 finals series both were vital.

I never said that it 'dismissed' our history, but surely you agree that our first national league victory is a larger achievement than any state league victory?
No. You can only fight the opponent you are presented with. The 2004 GF was a fabulous match against a magnificent opponent, but in the past we have done as well or better for longer. The win in 1990 after being robbed of our AFL entrance was huge. Rubbing it in the SANFL's face for much of the rest of the 1990s was wonderful. Pick an era/pick a GF.

Watched it again today, for the 25th time!
Marvellous - very emotional impact still the 04 GF.
Was there and loved every minute.

07 - less so. Remember the drive home.
Actually broke up with my then gf on the drive home, that's how ****ed off I was.
Ah....it was for the best ;)

I have seen all of the PAFC matches in the AFL either live or on TV, except one - guess which one - I haven't had the stomach to do it yet and I'm not sure if I ever will. It's the only GF that I haven't seen in some form in the last 40 years.

I will watch a bit of the 07 grand final as I was at the game and have never seen it on tv as my father taped it but I could never stomach it to watch it. 2 years have past and im ready to see how bad we looked on tv that day. Weird I know that I wanna see it.

I still have the 07 GF on my DVD recorder hard drive. I havent been game to watch it, but havent been game to delete it. I feel I need to watch it again just for my own peace of mind, but everytime I go to, I cant push the play button.

I had tickets to go, but gave them to one of my best mates who couldnt go in 04. Probably a blessing.

When Toby and Pettigrew were run down in the first quarter, I knew we were in trouble. As DT said, Bartels goal was what did it for me. I knew it was game over at that moment. Slammed the record down and ripped it in half in my parents lounge room. From then on I sat in complete silence except for yelling out the worlds loudest 'OH **** OFF' when Surj ran down Ablett for no reward. Only game ive ever not seen from start to finish, left to drive back home 15 minutes into the last quarter. In that time, the margin went from 88 or so to 110. Laughed. Was on the verge of tears all night but fought them back. Didnt deserve my tears.

The 04 GF was a great day. Had a smile on my face all day. Knew we had it won when I woke up in the morning. The issue was always the Prelim. That was a different kettle of fish. I was a wreck all week leading up to that game. Nearly vomited in the last quarter. Couldnt handle the tension. When Kingsley kicked out on the full from 35 out dead in front I think my eyes welled up...thought we had lost it, even though we were a goal up.

Seems a lifetime away now.

It's nuts what that day in 2007 has done. Others may laugh, and repeatedly say '119' and such, but that day has hurt our club more than we know. Since then, not much, if anything, has gone right for us. 2007 will be remembered as the darkest day in our history and I feel the only day we can overcome it, is when we win our second AFL premiership.

And I eagerly await that day. :thumbsu:

I have the 2004 gf on dvd and on my ipod....i travel heaps so i watch it constantly on plane flights....in a matter of fact i am leaving to phuket on a boys trip in 2 weeks...time to dust off the old ipod...

When wangas snaps that goal in the 4th it chokes me up every time...

Another premiership or two will remedy the situation.
