At least Chad Fletcher had the OPTION of deciding if he wanted his medical records made public.
The two players names in these medical reports obtained by Ch 7 in a somewhat dubious manner (for want of a better term) DID NOT HAVE THAT LUXURY.
I'm with Chewy on this one in regards to the sanctity of medical reports.
FFS, I assess applications for Life Insurance for a living, and am dealing with other people's medical records on a daily basis.
If I so much as THOUGHT about discussing that sort of privileged information with someone outside of work - and decided to mention names rather than be vague & general about it - I would be out on my arse so quickly I wouldn't know what hit me.
so from what your saying you think it would be ok to report he sighting of an afl player at a drug rehab clinic, so long as the actual medical records were not released? your issue is with fact that its actual medical records?
are not club doctors constantly asked about player injuries by the media? doesn't peter larkin often report on players medical conditions?
its ok to report on someones medical history so long as the the basis of your report is not medical records. Rumors from friends/family for example is fair game?
It seems to me that for the victorian media at least, when its interstate clubs and players its called drug abuse, and when is a high profile victorian club, its called a private medical issue.
