Here's the reason why Hawks are desperate for Barrass:

Barass' ranking out of players that have played 6+ games

1% = 6th
Intercepts = 8th
Contested Marks = 16th

These are the indicators that Hawks will be looking at.

Highest ranked Hawk
1% = 57th
Intercepts = 12th
Contested Marks = 45th

People don't actually believe that Barrass is injured do they?
Is wrapped up in cotton wool, Eagles getting a good look at life without him.

Can you put up Josh Battle’s stats for comparison? Tks.

Not sure how people think we had that purple patch between 2015-2019. Did they think it was cos Mark Hutchings and Steven Armstrong or something?

It was 2 men. Jeremy McGovern and Tom Barass

Must admit I loved Brian Lake, very good defender.

I'd suggest that Lake having 2 AA's and a Norm Smith in the kit bag says you're really underselling him.
Norm Smith was huge I gotta admit, but beyond that Barass has him covered as a actual talent. Just like for example id say Jesse Hogan is a much better forward then Joe Daniher despite individual awards and the like

Very confident Barass would have multiple AAs if McGovern wasnt playing alongside him.

Id be staggered if Barass isnt AA in 2025 if he is fit lets say. He wont have McGovern taking as much responsibility

Completely lost the plot if you think Lake was a better footballer then Barass
Wow. I think there is someone who has lost the plot and it is not who you think

Both are excellent players but Barass just has him covered as a talent. Barass just a vidtm of playing alongside McGovern which lowers his output as opposed to him having any talent problems

Lake is one of the most talented key backs I've seen and that is before he moved to Hawthorn. Some of his Bulldog years he was the best defender in the league by a fair distance

Barrass has him covered as a talent? You’ve got to be kidding.

Lake had 520 disposals and 240 marks in a season once.

Barrass’ TWO best seasons COMBINED he had 550 and 266.

But I guess Barrass does have those 3x imaginary AA’s you mentioned, gotta take that over Lake’s 2x real AAs every day of the week.

Lake was an epic defender and was an astute trade by the Hawks. Lake went on to 3-peat and produced a Norm Smith.

Hawks gave up their first and second rounders for Dogs 2nd & Lake, albeit in a very heavilly (GWS) comprimised draft.

Thus offering 28 year old a 4/5 yr deal is reasonable when comparing to 31yr old Lake. I'm thinking a first and second rounder constitues fair value considering his age and current 3 year WCE contract.

This thread would even make Dodo embarrassed. A whole lot of over and under valuing here. Most likely a fist with a future 2nd with a third coming back would be my guess

It is pretty simple - the trade value should line up with the sort of contract on offer. It is not to a supporter base to understand that.

Tom is supposedly being offered in the realms of $850k for 4 years with some incentives on top which could take it up to $900k. That sounds like a special talent. We are not talking Dusty range so there is no need to sell the farm.

I personally like the talk of 2 x R1 picks that are likely to be in the teens. Experience tells me if it feels right, then it is probably slightly overs.

So I walk that back to the Hawks R1 (early teens but could be worse) and the Pies R2, it probably feels slight unders but that probably means it is fair. With the age of the Hawks, losing the first 2 picks this year is hardly going to change their world.

I believe Tom has been told he can explore but that West Coast need to be fairly compensated so do not come back with a bog average deal and expect to be released. The asking club better be giving a the Eagles an offer they want to take. In other words, slight overs.

Step back - a backline with Tom at full back on the big monsters while still intercepting and Josh Battle at CHB with Sicily playing the Lever role would be awesome. Mitchell knows this and so do the Hawks list management team.

It is going to happen and supporters from both clubs will think it was overs or unders. How about we save the board from all the petticoats self igniting.
