Worth is subjective, Eagles are rebuilding and the dogs are challenging. So you would argue WC would value picks higher than having a player whose getting older on their list, than say the Bulldogs would would value keeping Bailey over getting one pick for him? Yes his OOC but Geelong don't have the first pick in PSD so Bulldogs have leverage to ask for more than one first.

Eagles don't have much leverage apart from TB contract which they would want to be released from if they can get a reasonable pick for. And so hence Hawthorn have leverage to underpay.
I love how Hawks supporters seemingly don't understand how contracts work.

3 years contract, right? That's how long he's got left, hawks chased him. They need to make it happen

WC need it to happen, a 29 year old with a degenerative back who has indicated he doesn't want to be there. Also, given WC are a club desperate to use whatever, asset they have to get early draft picks will lead to WC being given a fair offer but not an exhorbitant one.

Gotta think Bailey Smith on the other hand being 24 years old and with so that marketing talent will probably attract a Tim Kelly like haul for the bulldogs.

Smith is far more likely to end up at Richmond via the PSD than get Bulldogs a decent haul, based on Geelong's stingy trade history and Blogs already threatening to send him to the PSD, as per Twomey.

nothing screams 5 year contract to a 29 year old like 'degenerative back'

i think a lot here forgetting about west coast are not pushing barrass out on the fact they have to pay the cap floor which is the single worst thing the players assoication have come up with.

west coast may genuinely need to keep barrass, who else are they paying? mcgoven, kelly, yeo, allen, who else deserve the coin? darling off to north, gaff is done, reid not extending yet.
Maybe AA forward Jake Waterman?

You're joking right? Kelly nearly won the freaking Brownlow...

One is contracted, one isn't. Contracted means more assets to pry them out.

End of story.

Well in that case so did Dyane Zorko. Tom Mitchell won the brownlow and was traded for a pick in the 40s. So clearly the brownlow has little to do with trade value.

One is 29 with a degenerative back and other is a 24 year old former top ten pick, who given his fitness level will likely be around for another 8 to 9 years.

You clearly are living in some fantasy world. End of story.

Yeah maybe. But if you can't see the difference between Sam Frost and Tom Barrass as footballers I'm not sure what to say to you tbh

Tom Barrass has been a good footballer but age has caught up with him. He will never be the same footballer that he has been at WC, no disgrace in that because he's 29 and WC played him in a role where he's irreparably damaged his body.

That's what medicals are for. He either passes or the Hawks don't offer him 4/5 years on big money

Bringing up Tom’s “degenerative back” is gold while leaving out Bailey Smith missing the last year with an injury.

You obviously didn’t watch him this season if you are using a past tense to describe him as a good footballer. Age hasn’t caught up to him in the slightest, is still producing to an elite standard.

I really think Hawthorn are better off getting Battle for free, only offering at most pick 13 for Barass.
Or perhaps drafting a kid with pick 13, they still need more elite young talent in My opinion.
Or they figure Barass helps their team next year, further leading to some other quality free agent joining them in 2026.
