However, when Rock was put 100% into the midfield, roughly from Round 16 against North through to round 23, he averaged 32.25 touches over 8 games. Thats a massive impact, and likely would have been close to his full season average had he sat in the guts since round one.
Just on this point, I don't think you can say it would have been close to his full season average at all. You can't extrapolate an 8 game sample to a full season, and to average 32.25 touches over 22 games is insane. Ablett averaged less than that over the whole season, and I highly doubt Rocky would average that many touches, or even close to it, over a whole season.

As a pure inside mid, you'd expect Libba's tackles and clearances to be inflated. As Rock has a better mix of uncontested and contested, you'd expect him to have more marks/disposals. It's not that good a poll really, because Libba is truly elite in his position which is as an inside mid, and that's how people are measuring him. Rocky is being measured as more of a mix, and he's not quite elite in that position right now. Gun player, but not elite.

I think you said it best though. When it comes down to it, they are both fine players.

Rockliff IMO. Severely underated and Voss wasted him up forward for large portions of the last two seasons. Needs to stay in the midfield.

Rockliff has a best and fairest and polled 21 votes in the brownlow last year. Shocked to see rockliff not winning this poll.

Liberatore was runner-up to Ryan Griffen in our best and fairest this year. Given griffen was AA and is pretty well unanimously regarded as a top 5 mid in the league for 2013 it's fair enough. Liberatore will win his share. Brownlow votes don't mean much given we spend 24+ weeks of the year saying umpires are idiots.

It's not that much of a shock. Liberatore is just better (and younger). Rockliff is a good player though.

Rockliff won his B&F over Simon Black - Certainly beats winning over Griffen. Also, most people call the Brownlow the midfielders award. Therefore since both Tom's are midfielders and Rockliff has the better average of votes per game (very close to double Liberatore's average) - I am pretty confident in saying Tom Rockliff impacts games more than Liberatore at this point in time.

Both great players but I would have too go Libba, love the way he goes about it one of the hardest players in the AFL and also skillful.

Rockliff is more two-sided, Libba better off his left if given space (3rd in the kicking test in his draft year).
Fans of both teams wouldn't swap, we'll keep Libba as B-Mac wants to build from the inside out and Libba is arguably the best clearance player in the entire competition.

.

Haven't seen enough of Rocky in that regard but Libba's kicking off both feet is pretty good. Don't sell him too short.

Why are we comparing a kid who wasn't even taken in the national draft with a kid who was good enough to go in the first round but WB lucked out and got him with their second father/son pick?
If we use your logic, Melbourne offered pick 2 for rocky over the offseason. Rockliff is better then I guess?

Lol.

Will be intrresting to see how Libba goes tonight after a huge preseason, hoping to see him get a bit more outside ball and hit the scoreboard a little more often.

Behind Hickey as BOG I'd say but still very good last night.
Cant say I really took too much notice of st kilda last night so probably a bit biased haha but he was huge! 28 disposals (16 contested), 10 clearances, 6 tackles, 6 inside 50s and a goal going at 78% in shitty conditions and shortened quarters is pretty much a perfect game.

Rockliff - not too rusty for his first hitout of the year. 32 disposals (14 contested) @75%, 6 marks, 8 tackles in only 70% of game time with a DT score of 130. It was in very humid and slightly windy conditions so that's a very good game. If we win 10 or more games Rocky will be top 3 in the brownlow, provided he gets more time in the midfield this year:thumbsu:
