Tom Morello VS Slash

OK, a few mates and I were playing guitar hero last night when we got onto the subject of who he better guitarist is. Now I know people are going to say things like "so and so is better anyway, so who cares about Slash and Morello". Well I dont care. This thread is about these 2 guitarists.

So anyway, who do you think is better?

Good question - personally i love Slash.

I work for Gibson Guitars in Oz and both are well respected - Morello probably ahead as a Guitarist but Slash in terms of World Wide Appeal.

Gibson and Epiphone just released Slash Signature models, Morello has not achieved this as he does not have the wide enough appeal.

Great guitarist the both of them, but Guns n Roses are the biggest band of my generation.

A find Morello a more interesting guitarist to listen to because of all the techniques he uses that others don't, but in terms of technical skill Slash is a bit better.

Slash over the one trick pony any day. Morello had his chance to do something different with Audioslave and screwed it up.

They are both equally skilled and I love Guns and Roses and Rage Against the machine. But I prefer Guns and Roses and Slashes guitar playing so slash for me. I would love to see a band with Slash and Tom Morello in it as they are very different guitars and I think they would go well together. Then I'm probably wrong and it will never happen but I would like to see what it would be like anyway.

Are you serious - give a five year kid enough effects pedals and he could be Tom Morello - Slash is a better guitarist

I like both, but Slash has more work that will stand the test of time.

They've been playing together quite a bit lately. This Kick Out The Jams was pretty cool.

Thats not true and you know it otherwise there would be a lot more Tom Morello's around. Like Slash he is a highly reguarded guitarist and one of the best modern day guitarists going around. Slash has a better feel for the guitar and I prefer his music but I love both of their music.

Dunno...who is better out of Wolverhampton and Crystal Palace? Who cares, they are both 2nd rate!

Slash's technically wizardry is something to behold, but Tom Morello can do things with a guitar that few others, if any, can do, so he has uniqueness going for him.

That said, you can generally tell when Slash is playing too, and Morello is no technical slob.

I'm going to give the edge to Slash, just.

Slash is a great technician, but plays a blues-based style similar to a lot of others before him (Angus Young, Jimmy Page etc.).

Morello is more original, so I'll have to go with him.

Very different styles make it a difficult comparison.

in answer to the question - slash is the better guitarist

i love them both but slash has influenced me the most as a guitarit.
slash plays a variety of styles and is better with the wah pedal. Morello simply plays amazing riffs and has alot of talent in his effects/solos however slash plays the better 'sound' in general

some of Morello's guitar work in Audioslave is just amazing. for example their first album was just brilliant.

Slash - tasteful soloist, could shred and use gimmickry on occassion (i.e - on the end of Nightrain and on Anything Goes), but who often played his solos in accordance to the song (in other words, I can't really think of a Slash solo which doesn't suit the Guns N' Roses song in question).

Morello used gimmickry (turntables, etc.) a lot more than Slash and was more inventive, but his solos didn't seem to captivate you as much. Slash it is.
