Tom Scully as good as gone - Mike Sheahan

Does anyone remember ricky petterd received an offer from the suns?

Lets put things in perspective.... A boy from surfers paradise who had an offer of probably double his MFC contract chooses to stay in melbourne away from his family and friends.

A boy from MELBOURNE gets an offer of less than double his MFC offer, has to leave his family and friends, endless business opportunities with in his home state and play in a team of "KIDS" probably lead them have his body smashed from pillar to post every week by taggers like picken, cornes and others.

Money speaks volumes I agree but for eff sake, lets be real! If you were a 20yo kid, would you leave behind your FAMILY, your MATES, the MCG NEARLY EVERY WEEK or your INTEGRITY??????

I won't say, but personally, I'm confident he'll do the right thing and be a 1 club player.

Everything people say about his character is spot on. He will stay loyal and it should get him a 15 year deal.

you talk as if not being a one club player is a bad thing, which is rubbish. why should scully have no say on his career? if he wants to seek better opportunities elsewhere, goodluck to him, i would do the same.

I believe for Tom, being a one club player is something that would appeal to him. I'm not saying that all players should be one club players, and there have been many examples of players who have moved on and done wonders, but in the end, the loyalty shown by Melbourne to take him early, combined with the character that many people can attest to, will see Tom stay and take a lucrative deal at home.

I feel GWS will never be a serious option.

Your view sure does go against popular opinion. Good on you for not being a sheep and taking the Herald Sun as gospel. :thumbsu: Fingers crossed now.

I may be wrong and the lure of quick money might have swayed him, which is disappointing, because he has the earning potential at Melbourne to match GWS over his career, whilst not burning bridges and helping to build a club with his mates.

mike sheehan doesn't go with an article that strong unless his source is impeccable

scully is obviously going, the dees would do well now to start looking at the players they can use their compensation picks on

Sorry to burst your bubble 'captain peanut' but Sheehan didn't claim to have a source... and he then backtracked throughout the article saying 'only Scully knows if he should stay at Melbourne'.....

......

1. It's the Herald Sun
2. It's Mike Sheehan

He can and would write up and article, merely messing around with a few words so that what he is saying sounds completely new, when he is just rehashing the same thing he's always said.

"Scully is gone" is hit bait. We all fell for it. I think he's gone, but I won't know 100% until he actually is.

And Sheahan doesn't know anything.

Absolutely.

Melbourne have been smart too, they've offered him a heap of money, around $600 - $700k, meaning GWS have had to increase their offer to make it worthwhile for him to go, regardless of how much extra they have in their cap this is going to squeeze their cap in 3 or 4 years time.

The other issue with Scully is that every time he's had a hard tag he hasn't performed, look at the games against Port and Doggies.
How is that smart?

That also would place him at the top of the tree should he stay at Melbourne. If his knee is as dodgy as some here are suggesting then there will be just as much, if not more pressure to perform at Melbourne.

If Trengove continues to develop and indeed theres every chance he ends up being a better player, how much will Melbourne offer him?

I hear today Sylvia is unhappy with his offer, whats the bet he sees Scully getting 600k+ and wants a bigger slice of the pie.

These things always snowball, I dont think Melbourne has handled this well at all.

Sure. I left home at 17 and moved to a different city away from family and mates. The family were a phone call or train trip away and I made new mates. No biggie.

It's a unique position. I don't see what we could have done differently???

With adolf preaching the "i would like scully to stay with the demons line" like he preached with Ablett, as well as "i deliberately dont want to know if he is staying or going" which was the same as the ablett situation then you would think that he IS gone,

Lets face it Adolf is pretty easy to read, only lining his pockets being the be all end all.

Offered what he is worth and set an example to the rest of the player base?

He hasn't been in the game for a minute and your throwing money at him as if he is a top 20 player in the competition.

If Scully isn't gone already, I think Melbourne's greatest chance to keep him is to make the finals this year and Gold Coast fall away badly.

Tom's a smart kid. He knows that us making or missing the finals will likely be due to one or two games. He's not going to make a decision based on that. If we were to go unexpectedly deep into September then that would perhaps help. He would also understand where the GC is at and where GWS will be at. I don't think the final 7 games of GC will have much impact on his decision.

Best part was when Tim Watson called him out for his line about the AFL not railroading the clubs into accepting GWS/GC being able to pillage kids.

The similarities to a certain parliamentary inquiry were eerie. All it need was for Schwartz to run in and unload a cream pie in his face and it news of the world all over again.

Staying, going... I couldn't give a shyt anymore.

edit* my personal opinion is that this is a classic Sheedy red herring. I think the old fox is trying to throw us all off the scent… Has Daisy re-signed? What about Pendls’ 1 year contract??
