Opposition negativity is a lot older than Abbott.

I am more worried about the small-target politics of personality that have dominated the elections from 2007 onwards. Now, both parties have won government from opposition by eschewing policy. It will take something special to turn this trend around.

Its not that recent. Small target has been the name of the game from both major parties since Hewson.

Nowhere near this extent. Look at the way costings bickering has turned into a farce in the last 3 elections. Latham, Howard and Beazley may not have been big thinkers but they did take a coherent vision to an election (even if it was sometimes stupid - remember 'Knowledge Nation'?).

Nobody really knows what either party stands for these days, and it seems that nobody really cares. Leaders want people to vote based on feelings - a feeling that it's time for change, or a feeling that it's safer to stay with the current guys.

At the end of the day Tony didn't have the power to block the legislation put forward by the ALP govt. The ALP will have the power in the senate with the Greens to block policy. People won't support blocking of legislation IMO. Especially after they win their first term.

I wouldn't bet on it. With all the anti Labor/Greens sentiment going around and a non existent Democrats presence I am expecting the Coalition to not only blitz the lower house but win balance of power in the upper also. Could be catastrophic for anyone on the wrong side of their policies.

Can't quite recall people saying he was unelectable. Seemed to be more along the lines of how unfortunate it is that he will be elected. Not quite the same thing but an ok song yo've come up with.

Unfortunately that is a cross we shall have to bare.

Tone might be a clever devious politician but the guy is to many people a complete idiot when left to his own devises without his minders to guide him much like Rudd has proven to be, but i shall be fair about Abbott & will take his performance as PM on face value.

Just keep him away from the real guns of the ADF.

Actively supported a substantial amount of legislation, under the rhetoric, the parliament has been very constructive

Thatll be the last appearance for a few years

Heh, heh, Leigh Sales couldn't land a glove and she knew it at the end.
Tried very hard to trip Tones up on the detail of the Syrian Opposition but he danced out of reach.
Apart from that, the interview consisted of Leigh recycling adolescent, immature, leg in air Labor luvvie issues that we read about all the time on Big Footy to a grown up adult who politely sent them into nowhere's land.

If Tones keeps this up there's high chance media/govt discourse will be elevated to an entirely different plane in an Abbott Prime Ministership.

This is going to be fun... conservatives had to deal with Gillard being PM, now the lefties will have to deal with Tony Abbott. :)

And what's even better is that none of us will have to listen to Kevin Rudd's voice anymore.

Short of an inter-dimensional portal opening up and swallowing Canberra I can't see this happening.

Honestly, almost in spite of our politicians things have been pretty good here post GFC.

Oh well, Tony thy name is despair, I don't look forward to you and future publicly funded parasites of your kind further trashing political discourse in this country,

Abbott has matured into a perfectly electable PM.
Not an orator or bombastic personality like stamped Labor voters require....but do we really need another Mr Sheen as PM.

Rudd has been terrible in office and terrible on the campaign trail...and in contrast to the current lot, Abbott's shadow cabinet does actually look very good. I like to compare front bench talent rather than just look at the mouthpiece...Rudd has spuds..anyone half decent has deserted him anyway. Only those with thick skins left.
