As many of you would know one of our best regular posters Toots Hibbert was diagnosed with cancer 2 1/2 years ago. At the time he was told it was incurable and was treated with chemotherapy ever since to hold it at bay.
About six weeks ago Toots had to be hospitalised as a result of the effects of chemotherapy which his body could not tolerate anymore.
Treatment has stopped and his care has been transferred to a palliative care team. Toots's intention is to spend his remaining months and weeks at home. There's still plenty to enjoy, family, friends, going out. He is not in pain and there are plenty of drugs to keep him pain free and mellow.
Toots wants everyone to know he has been able to lead a very full life, has been overseas twice with his wife and had a great time, done lots of gliding, hang gliding and started a microlight course recently. Plus enjoying lots of time with friends and family. He has also enjoyed doing volunteer work for Port.
I've been lucky enough to meet Toots a few times at games and training and he is a smart, funny, thoughtful, centred guy and generous to a fault.
This is terrible news and I'm not ashamed to say there are tears on my keyboard as I type this.
Be strong Toots you are a fine man.
