Can't remember many players beating Jones this year - he has been class and definitely one of our biggest improvers.

If he has another couple of season like this one I think people would definitely put him in the top 4/5, maybe higher. Still, he has to earn his reputation by doing the good stuff over a long period of time.

I like this list, though I would rate Crowley higher than that, probably slot him ahead of Selwood - he's certainly a better negator than Selwood when he's given the pure taggers role. Selwood is good too though of course. I might slip Jackson down a touch too.

Jones has been find of the year in that role though and if it was on this year alone I would put him right up there AFAIC.

Also, as someone said, Kirk isn't really an out an out tagger anymore, he's usually the tagie.

Brady Rawlings anyone?
Andrew Welsh anyone?

Top 10:

1. Cameron Ling
2. Kane Cornes
3. Clinton Jones
4. Brady Rawlings
5. Liam Picken
6. Aaron Joseph

10. Robert Shirley

That is the list just about I would say.

Brady Rawlings anyone?

Brady Rawlings should definitely be up the top of the tagging list if it was for the last ten years. I always remember how he would continue to shut down Chris Judd when the roos would play the eagles back in 2005/6.

Have to agree - Jones has impressed this year. Wouldn't surprise me if he takes the No.1 mantle in 2010

Yep. Brady wouldn't be in it this year though, hasn't had a good year.

Look to Levi Greenwood to play that role very well for North in the next two years or so.

What about Shirley?

Your own Chris Judd rates him as the toughest tagger.

EDIT: Good reading on my behalf... :p

Have a look at Sydney's Keiran Jack.He keeps getting better each week and he has that added bonus that he can leave his opponent and run quickly to the forward line and kick goals.

brett kirk is not a tagger

:d

Not anymore yeh he isn't an out and out tagger, but every now and then he does a tagging job when necessary. Against the Saints, Roosy and Kirky agreed that his job wasn't so much to win hte ball but quell the influence of Lenny Hayes, which he did. Kirky had 10 touches i think and Lenny had 15 i think but had no influence on the contest. So when he needs to he is still an excellent tagger.

I think the best way to categorise Kirk would be an accountable midfielder? Also from a Brisbane perspective, our boy Cheynee Stiller and Troy Selwood have developed their games massively this year.

Look for them to make the list possible next season ;)
