Top 5 APS footballers 09

look mate, it is hard to dispute what you're saying, but putting two AFL listed players in your top 5 is just a cop out. and plus 3 of those 5 are all big forwards.

id go at present (excluding AFL):
1. Scully (HC)
2. May (MGS)
3. Purcell (SKC)
4. Liberatore (SKC)
5. Pasceri (XC)

could argue a case to put keath (MGS), Mitchell (MGS), cachia (SKC), griffiths (SKC), jacobs (BGS) and Harangozo (XC) in there also.

who are carey, wesely and geelong's (both grammar and college) best this year?

why exclude AFL listed players? ok fair enough with watts as he probably won't be playing most of the APS season, but whats wrong with putting hanneberry in. If he is playing this year for Xavier, then he will obviously be in the top 5, so theres no point excluding him.

secondly, so what if 3 out of the 5 are big forwards? maybe, by some divine miracle, they are legitimately in the top 5 APS players.

ohanlon14's revised top 5. (basically taking out watts)

5. Liberatore
4. Keath
3. May
2. Hanneberry
1. Scully

by the way, keathy has been touted as #2 draft pick in 2010, and s.may top 10.

i just think that by not letting AFL listed players dominate discussion the thread becomes more insightful. and i think you will find this year, with the strength of skevs midfield- MGS's big men in the forward line could have their influence diminished greatly. hence you could argue a point that grammar's midfield will be of more importance to them in their hunt for the silver wear. so i dunno, i guess im just saying that this year in particular, midfielders will be more important than ever, and i think this could be reflected in any rankings we come up with. but there is no denying that may and keath are class. there are no right or wrong answers, im merely stating my own personal preferrence.

would you put Harangozo ahead of Pasceri?

Almost contrasting roles, very hard to pick. Harangozo is a gun tagger who never stops running, mentally he is amazingly strong. Pasceri is a nuggetty forward (normally) who plays tall and could even fill a KP. Stints in the midfield wouldn't be out of the equation either. Both very aggressive, great players.

Although Goss isn't in the top 5, he'll be important too. Another arky little shit like Harangozo and Pasceri, and has a knack of just slotting those important goals and standing up where needed.

I'm sorry but just because he was drafted doesn't mean lowden is that fantastic, from what i saw last year he is pretty average, all he has is height. There are much more effective players in the APS this season.

Why would the 2008 AFL premiership winning club draft someone who is 'average'? To me, that is an extremely stupid post. If you get drafted then you must be good, but to get drafted when you're only 17 then you must be very very good. You have to remember that Lowden was the only 17 y.o. ruckman to get drafted last year - but yeah he's only 'average'.

mullucks? you have got to be kidding. the clear superstar down at wesley goes by the name of symington. some clown told me he has the agillity of watts, which is hard to believe but he has an incredible leap and impressive athleticism, not to mention his pollished skills. definately potential top 10...

You could not be anymore right.
I have often heard to him referred to as the mitochondria of the Wesley team. He like a mitochondria is a powerhouse to the human body, "symo" or "Big-O" is the powerhouse of the Wesley team and always seems to dominate sides.

watch out for browne and pepperal from xavier- both guns and will slip under many teams radar. we played carey on the weekend who arent much but use crocker alot who has the best left foot in the aps

Good list Hutchins (Hc) maybe is year 12 but not available till 2010 draft AIS scholarship holder, could sneak in the top 10. this is how i see it.

Also it is hard for people to know everyone going round but in all seriousness Mullucks (Wc) is of serious draft potential. Has been rumored to have been invited to the Vic metro trials this weekend based on club games. Runs under 11 for the hundred, can bench press over 100 Kg can kick 60 comfortable of both feet and looks set to win the APS high jump this year. dominated against st peters and PAC on the schools trip to adelaide by all reports kicking bags of (3,5) of the half back flank.

1. Scully (Hc)
2. Mullucks (Wc)
3. Hannebury (Xc)
3. Purcell (Skc)
4. May (MGS)
5. Watts (BGS) (will play some games the rumour is and influence is just to hard to ignore.)

Im sorry but purcell is not in the top 5 players in this years APS competition.
Not including Hanneberry, Watts, Lowden...
1. Scully - by a long way
2. Keath
3. May
4. Gaff
5. Cachia

Gotta agree with you there with Gaff. Cannot ignore his amazing performances for Oakleigh lately with 5 goals and a best on.

Just regarding Lowden, would he be top 5 anyway? ive heard a lot of people find him overrated, even though he was drafted.

how much did you beat carey by? and both had full teams or lots of outs?

Taylor Duryea from CGS will be one of the better players this year, first round draft pick for mine.

beetham.. a lazy 24 touches in 3 quarters of a praccy game including 14 team targets such as tackling.. haileybury's back flank should look out for the toned number 34 of red and black.. a real threat

A bit of perspective guys.

In the 2008 draft, just to name just 5 players, and there were more than 5 who were drafted. Those players in the APS all played TAC and also went in the first round in the national draft. were:

Pick 1- Jack Watts BGS
7- Tyrone Vickery HC
10-Jack Ziebell CGS
13 - Tom Lynch HC
14- Ayce Cordy GC

The reality is that this year in all probability much the same will happen or at worst blow out to pick 20. Tom Scully will be definately one of them. The other 4 and that's only if you are excluding the APS players already drafted, in all probably mightn't go to your school, so please give it some thought. Your player had firstly want to be drafted and secondly gone by pick 20 at worst.

The other 4 will also be TAC players and to suggest someone who snubbed a TAC club and still get drafted is absolutely dreaming.

Thought I'd follow up my previous post with my top 5

1. Scully HC
2. Hanneberry XC
3. Jones SC
4. Lowden CGS
5 Keath MGS But probably No 1 next year, and only draftable to GC this year.

you guys are forgetting one key player, Liam Jones drafted in the 20's to Western bulldogs, and is definitely going to make Scotch extremely competitive this year
