Hello everyone
I like the Port Melbourne Jersey

Northern Territory Thunder it's sort of a sash
BIG V
Original WCE

I hate animals on jerseys sorry Brisbane

Re: Top 5 Favourite AFL jumpers.

fremantle should convert to purple haze, and richmond should use the nab cup design in white or yellow as a clash...
i think adeliades home is very underrated and ports is the best ive seen, pity not a big fan of port...
i love the kangaroos logo on the chest on that jumper and think adeliades clash of 2009 was a instant classic.
thank you for your time:)

Re: Top 5 Favourite AFL jumpers.

I never realised how good that QLD Brisbane Bears jersey looked.

It's in the shape (sort of) of QLD with the Bear (koala) down where Brisbane should be.

Lions fans (don't want to be hurtful) whinge that they lost their history, heritage but what about the poor ppl who stuck with the Bad news Bears for years, they lost everything jersey nickname, got stuck with the worst part Brisbane.

Re: Top 5 Favourite AFL jumpers.

I had 6 off the top of my head so here they are.
6
Port-2010.gif

Port Home (2010). It just looks like a traditional footy jumper, which is refreshing from a club that hasnt been awesome when it comes to designs. Great jumper.

5
Fremantle-Home-2009.gif

Freo Home (1995-2009). Never understood why this copped so much. The colours go pretty well together, and the anchor on the chest is good. Looked better before they took the panels off the back this year.

4.
Fitzroy-9.gif

Fitzroy home (1983-1996). Great basic colours, cant beat the yoke/monogram. Should be brisbane's away jumper exactly as it is.

3.
Tas-1982-with-collar.gif

Tasmania State of Origin (forever). Biased for sure, but its just a great jumper. The green, primrose and rose go great together, and the map is unique. Massive shame some great payers like Richo and Robbo never got to wear it.

2
Richmond-1987b.gif

Richmond Home (1919-1995, 2005-) The sash is a unique design to footy and this one's very good. The light/dark effect witht the yellow and balck makes the jumper.

1.
Melbourne-2010.gif

Melbourne home (1935 - 1974, 1987 - 1997, 2010-) The best imo. The darker blue is better than the lighter blue that they have used in the 80's and early 00s. Just an awesome traditional design with great colours.

Re: Top 5 Favourite AFL jumpers.

5. The Big V - Being a Victorian it is probably the ultimate jumper.
Vic-1977.gif

4. St Kilda yellow peril - always liked it as it was a fresh idea, looked like we didn't take ourselves to seriously (the team didn't much then either ;)) and it incorporated one of our oldest colours in yellow.
StKilda-8.gif

3. Fitzroy's final jumper - just a great design for a proud team.
Fitzroy-9.gif

2. Footscray circa 80 - 96 - Great jumper simple and had all the colours.
Footscray-1980.gif

1. St kilda hot cross bun design - Loved it, Loved it, Loved it. We had some success on the field in it and looked like our logo. Always thought it made the players walk a bit taller.
StKilda-7.gif

Honourable mentions to

* Sydney 2010 away
* West coast 1992 and 94 premiership jumpers.
* West Coast ochre
* South Melbourne's home with black shorts.
* Robert Harvey tribute jumpers.
* Bulldogs 2010 away jumper.
* Port 2010 home and away
* Fremantle original away
* Port Adelaide original away
* Hawthorns 1980's jumper - made a strong team look stronger.

Re: Top 5 Favourite AFL jumpers.

The sash is a unique design to footy and this one's very good.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but sashes have been used in all sports for over a century. They were very common in the 19th century because it was easier to provide players with sashes rather than complete identical shirts (sometimes teams used caps for team colours). They used them in cricket, athletics, cycling - everything. And continued to do so for many years. (Plus there is a strong military allusion - good for team identities).

Herb Elliott won the 1960 Olympics 1500m wearing a sash-design aussie uniform.

Problem these days are they are a bit of a bugger with full chest sponsor names. As a result few soccer clubs still use them (River Plate are probably the most famous Sash of all). There are few left, and the AFL is probably rare having two out of 16 clubs. And they do look awesome.

Re: Top 5 Favourite AFL jumpers.

What you chose 10.

Two Port guernseys 1 and 7, of which one number 7 is the magpies then you chose the AFL mapies number 10 that doesn't have the stripes all the way to the top and stupid front side panels, absolutley terrible guernsey.

Why did you choose the Bears Lions guernsey even at 8?? It is the BBL Heritage one.

Also Saints number 2 is one of the worst saints guernseys ever no synergy what so ever on thier emblem and Home guernsey it is Black White Red but clearly on this one it is Black Red White???

And I thought I rambled on...

Collingwood were using black side panels for most of their history and just because the stripes end a bit early doesn't automatically make it "terrible".

I have no idea what you're saying in the second paragraph and on the Saints jumper if you start looking 1 stripe over it becomes Red, White and Black.

Collingwood never had black side panels. They did have jumpers which included black stripes of varying widths.

Re: Top 5 Favourite AFL jumpers.

Here are my favourites (a few more than 5):

Fremantle Purple Haze (should be their full-time home guernsey):

Carlton White Away Guernsey:

Brisbane-Fitzroy Away Guernsey (with the old lion - the new lion is horrible):

Collingwood White Away Guernsey (without the weird curves currently on the guernsey):

Fremantle White Away Guernsey:

Melbourne Pink Guernsey (because it was for a good charity):

Melbourne-FoW-2010.gif

Sydney-South Melbourne Heritage Guernsey (without the Swan on the V):

Sydney-Heritage.gif

West Coast Away Guernsey (their home one is too cluttered):

West-Coast-8.gif

As much as it pains me to say it, the new Port Guernseys:

Port-2010.gif

Of course, I can't leave my favourite one out, the Adelaide Home Guernsey:

Adelaide-1.gif

And as a final note, I will say that I don't actually mind this one being used on Saturday, it's not perfect but it's simple and underrated, the Saints Away Guernsey:

Re: Top 5 Favourite AFL jumpers.

Look under Collingwood, Home Jumpers.
1910-1975 they had them.

Instead of using Mero's basic template, which doesn't take into account the varying widths of the black side stripes - they're not panels - why don't you use a decade by decade photographic study of Collingwoods guernseys.
Mero originally got the Swans Opera House jumper wrong. Someone from the old dart needed to inform him of his mistake.

Re: Top 5 Favourite AFL jumpers.

In fact you need to understand the difference between a side panel and ordinary traditional stripes which were the norm until the later 1970's.

A stripe on the side of the jumper is the same as side panel though. It's just a different way of saying it and if their is minor differences, the fact is they still look the same.
However I can understand your idea of a difference in this instance because the clash jumper had much stripes on the side.

I can see your point. But panels are usually wider than stripes. It's a bit like a sash or an oblique stripe, vee's or chevrons, or horizontal stripes or hoops.

Still can't see Why coollingwood jersey has a stripe on the sides on the front and not on the back???

Look one stripe over, but i am looking at the Black stripe first in the middle which is where most people would look at the darker colour ;)

Some of these jerseys are good but top 5 top 10 not sure?

Most top jerseys would be the state jerseys then some of the originals,

Fitzroy had unique colours, Maroon, White and Navy Blue not seen as much in the AFL
.
1956 - 1967

FFC logo in white so it could be seen on TV

Yes i am a Tigers tragic but the yellow sash against the black jersey combines well, there are other versions but this is the best example. Plus i am not overly excited about the straight sash.

2006 - 2007

Number font changed again for clarity

I have enjoyed the Bulldogs jersey over the years but this one is crisp and clean in it's lines, plus it does'nt have the stupid cat dog on the front.

2008

Pre Colour TV 1960's jumper, with thinner bands than the previous Heritage version and with the current collar and no cuffs. Worn on what would have been Ted Whitten's 75th birthday

I do not like the Weagles, i don't like thier culture or the way they were allowed to enter the VFL with more handouts than the Bears but this jersey was a leap from the old clubs they actually thought outside the box here.

R 18 1988 - 1994

Also used as a clash jumper in 1987, and 3 times in

Very interesting jersey this one Straight and rounded hoops.
1897 - 1911

Original lace-up

Re: Top 5 Favourite AFL jumpers.

2006 - 2007

That jumper is just about the most annoying jumper I've ever seen, how did they not notice the crappy number clas of yellow on whit, as Dennis Cometti would say, 'It looks like someone crakked a runny egg down the back of the jumper!' It's s**t
