At the end of the day, my opinion is that he is not a great 'moneyball' player in that he gains possessions but doesn't use them as well as other players.
If it's out injured, he can be covered, but players like the Bont, Guilden, Dustin Martin, Rozzee ect can be covered.
We'll have to agree to disagree.

He played 26 games, more than most , the stat isn't an average. He had the most possessions in the league yet has heaps of other mids ahead of him on that stat including McCluggage.
Anyway he's a good player but not an elite player imo.
Playing all 26 games and never getting hurt sure does help.

Neale is an outstanding footballer, but sure you can disagree with the vast majority if you wish to do so. You can hold whatever view you want on him.

On whether his disposals are involved in scoring chains, you are simply wrong.

He's not known for being involved in scoring chains, he's known for accumulating possessions and extracting the ball.

Not top 5 yet but
Gulden, Warner, Parker, Mills, Adams, Rowbottom and Papley
Having a decent ruck will help this group
Would be good to see Campbell and Sheldrick get a go this year
Bit of a stretch. Mills injured and has been ordinary in recent times. Parker could be cooked. Rowbottom is a good honest battler
Gulden and Warner yes.

Not particularly fussed what you think he is known for, you made the claim that "his disposals aren't involved in scoring chains that much at all", which is completely false.

11th highest for mids, but the highest possession mid.
I think the Bont, Pendulbury and others are much better kicks to forwards. Do you watch him closely at all?
You've had to backtrack on all of your criticisms. He is highly rated by champion data, he is very much involved in scoring chains. Your opinion that he's not an elite midfielder has been watered down to "well he's not quite as good as Bontempelli". Do yourself a favour and give it a rest.

Giants I like

Tom Green is almost the best player in the entire comp.....
Cogs, Callaghan, Kelly, Briggs.

Melbourne the best if Gawn, Petracca and Oliver are on song at the same time... .

Saints depth better than people think

Marshall, Steele, Crouch, Jones*, Henry, Clark, Windhager, Dow, Wilson.

*If he ever plays

Adelaide would be amongst the worst in the league I would have thought.
Yes, this is the commonly uniformed view of Hawks supporters... led by your cheerleader SYL.

Mind your business if people have a different opinion to yours and it upsets you. His early season form was woeful and he improved from there. He plays in a successful team which scores highly so I stand by saying he is not in the elite category of score involvements.

I'll make it a top 6:

Collingwood, Brisbane, Melbourne, Carlton, GWS and Bulldogs.
Port and Gold Coast would round out a top 8.
Melbourne, Brisbane & GWS all pretty close as my top 3 & have different strengths... followed by the Pies.

Don't have a standout for 5th.

giants have possibly the best balanced midfield in the game

green as the contested bull / clearance machine, coniglio as the mid-forward striker type, kelly as a classy ball user with a strong inside / outside game and finn callaghan who is going to be a superstar if he gets a good run with injury

this is supported by complementary pieces who can run through there like ward, perryman and greene to change the look a little

and im a huge fan of kieren briggs - think he will be the best ruck in the comp for the 2020's.

Not just hawks.

Out of interest, which midfield is worse than Adelaide? North maybe, but they have infinite first round mids to turn it round. WC possibly, but only because their best mids missed a fair few games recently.

If you throw the ball on the boot often enough, someone will mark it.
ignoring the fact that most of lachie neales scoring chain involvements would come from clearances where he would have close to the best hands in the comp at feeding the ball to a teammates advantage.......

lachie neale's kicking efficiency in 2023 was 64.1%

the player you are using as the benchmark for all midfielders in marcus bontempelli went at 60.7%

Seriously why would I bother debating Adelaide with the Hawks Mafia, as you'll just look to try & thread ban me again...

Crows currently have 3 previous All Australians in their midfield (not counting Sloane as 4th as he is cooked)... & have a good depth of young talent about to hit 50+ games mark with Pedlar, Soligo & Rachele... but we have been through this plenty of times on the Crows v Hawks v Roos thread... where you are still in denial that Pedlar will be moving into the midfield... as you struggle with the concept that we start midfielders as forwards or defenders before transitioning them into the midfield.

Same with all our greats - Ricciuto, McLeod, Goodwin, Edwards, Dangerfield... now Laird & Dawson, soon to be Pedlar, Rachele & Soligo as regulars.

Well we know that stat is misleading. Neale is a great extractor and handballer but most would say his field kicking and goal kicking is not elite
