cyril rioli is the most overrated player that i know!!
any danger of playing 2 quarters let alone 2 games well back to back!

HAHA re Long. You're joking, right?!! He was an absolute gun - extremely skilful, daring, mentally tough. I'll never forget the day he tore Carlton apart in the 93 Grand Final (watch the highlights) when Essendon were underdogs and they went on to win. WO! To be best on the biggest stage is the ultimate.

Interesting to note he pulled out at the last minute of the 2001 Grand Final with a hammy. Essendon were favourites and went on to lose to Brissie. He could have been the difference and would have put Essendon at 17 flags and leading the pack. Also re Goodes - get out of here!! If he played for Geelong he'd easily be their best player now Ablett has left.

It's also only one game. Long's easily the most overrated player I've ever seen.

Long wouldn't have made any difference whatsover in 2001. Brisbane were the better side and the longer the game went it was more evident (very similar to this year's Grand Final in some ways).

Goodes would be Geelong's best player? Sure, if Scarlett, Bartel, Kelly, Selwood and Enright weren't there perhaps.

Funny. Didn't your club play him in a GF in his 11th game?

In 2006, there was only 5 games where he went without kicking a goal or more.

In 2007, there was only 1 game where he went without kicking a goal or more. He kicked 55 goals and was 4th in the Coleman medallist tally, behind Brown, Pavlich and Buddy, all guns. He went AA that year.

In 2008, he kicked 47 goals, finishing 12th in the Coleman medallist tally.

In 2009, he kicked 41 goals, finishing 13th in the Coleman medallist tally.

.

Lloyd and Lucas finished higher than Mooney that year, kicking 61 and 62 Goals.

You just overated this guy while trying to suggest he is not overated. Wow!

Nicky Maxwell-what a scrubber.
Yes he can read the play, theres not many backline players that cant but geez he overated and underhated.

Forget the other four

Kouta played one good game in his life in the 1999 perlim.

Lol, Kouta at his best was one of the most influential players i've ever seen, if i had to pick a 22 to save my left aggot he would be one of the first picked (at his best), think Goodes, but better.

Wayne Campbell and Matthew Knights own this thread.

Cyril is over-rated IMO, just doesn't put games together, yet, still young though.

Monkhurst was over-rated by many Pie fans to IMO.

In terms of the media and current players:

1) Cyril Rioli
2) Robert Murphy
3) Brad Green
4) Harry Obrian
5) Michael Hurley
6) Chris Yarran

Emergencies:

Nick Reiwoldt
Scott Pendlebury (very good player but not the messiah some proclaim)

Correct. To say Kouta played one good game (99 prelim) is a joke.

Until his knee injury in round 20, 2000, performances like that were the weekly occurrence.

He changed the way recruiters went about drafting. Up until then they picked footballers. After that, they drafted athletes they hoped could turn into footballers. A 191cm, 98 kg player with the speed and stamina to play onball all game, or the strength and athleticism to hold down ANY key position. Have never seen better football from anyone at their peak.

Pendlebury?

Was odds on to bag his second NS at 3 qtr time in the GF, 2 top 4 Brownlow finishes, steps up in big games, overrated? I don't think so.

Would've been terrifying to try and match up on him. I remember North playing at PP and we had to send Adam Simpson to tag him. At the time Simpson was a pretty good tagger but he was hopelessly out of his depth and I think we managed to dodge a bullet with Kouta only kicking 3 goals and having 20 odd touches.

2011 overrated list.

1. S. Higgins.
2. K. Tippett.
3. M. Hurley.
4. C. Rioli.
5. C. Newman.

If it's the game I'm thinking of, I have that on Name a Game DVD.

Hate to correct you, but it was more like 35 touches and 5 goals. Even Carey was matched up on him at one stage but it would've taken a machine gun to stop him that day.
