Im astounded that Bulldogs and Saints didnt get in, top 3 of the season imo, but maybe that was more because we were winning.....

Lol at round 14 being better than the GF.

I suppose St Kilda have to hang on to something.

I was at the Grand Final and dispite the game making me happiest I've been whilst following football I believe the game was quiet over-rated. I even rate the 2008 grand final a better game of football than 2009, but thats a whole differenet issue.

Didn't see all the games this year but these are the games I remember being the most enjoyable while watching on tv and being there live

9. Melbourne vs Richmond: Round 18
8. Essendon vs Collingwood: Round 5 - At Game
7. Essendon vs Calton: Round 3
6. Sydney vs West Coast: Round 8
5. Port Adelaide vs Richmond: Round 9
4. Essendon vs St Kilda: Round 20
3. St Kilda vs Geelong: Grand FInal - At Game
2. Hawthawn vs Geeking: Round 17 - At Game
1. St Kilda vs Geelong: Round 14 - At Game

That game was an absolute farce. In the first half especially, there were so many fumbles and missed opportunities from both teams.

You could almost sneak in the prelim final between the dogs and saints, one of the most intense games I've experienced in a long time.

See, this annoys me. Sydney/West Coast played intensely physical games in 05/06 and everyone called them boring, but as soon as its two Vic teams, it's beautifully intense.

As I said I did not view every game this season, this being one of them. Sorry for leaving it out.

If you could obtain a copy of this game, and then send it to me, I would be more than happy to sit down and watch this match. If it is a good a game as your amazement of it's absence from my list suggest I'm sure I could rework my list and find a spot for it.

I know

Frustrating:mad::mad::mad:

Actually what I said was a lie, we played intense finals in 05/06, but we've continued to play intense games all the way through into this year, as shown by the list. WCE and Sydney are definately the definition of a modern rivalry. It'll be interesting to see if it continues when Horse takes over as coach and when Woosha leaves.

6 - West Coast 16.6 (102) d Western Bulldogs 13.19 (97), round 19, Etihad Stadium
It was one of the most amazing games of the year. The Dogs were huge favourites for the clash between third and 13th, with the Eagles carrying an away game losing streak of 19 into the match. But the visitors shocked everyone, kicking the first 10 goals of the game. It took 52 minutes for the Dogs to score off their own boot but that got them going. The lead changed four times in a pulsating last term before Mark LeCras took it back for the Eagles with the last goal of the game.

It was two teams at the same level battling it out, in a fast paced game of football. Fumbles and Missed opportunities aside, it was a game I enjoyed watching probably due to my fondness for Richmond and the fact that they actually won a game. The game came down to the last kick. It was a relativly easy shot from a guy who hasn't kick a straight kick since 2005, could have gone either way, just like the whole game.

Edit - You also basicly just discribed the Grand Final, but that's considered a good game

Exactly, bottom 2 teams.

You couldn't really say that it was high quality football

Depends what you want from a game of footy - I'd much rather see two bottom teams playing attacking footy and making errors than two high quality playing "keeping's off"

Agree, the 2009 Grand Final was an ordinary game. The only excitment I got was cheering the Cats on who deservedly got over the line with a real show of heart.

Massive respect for the Cats now and hope 2010 can be another Hawks vs Cats Grand Final.

As for the best game, I think Round 17 was the one.

Bulldogs defeating Geelong in R21 is another one that sticks out in my mind, though that might have a lot to do with the fact that I watched it in a bar in Berlin and that it was the first AFL game I'd seen in nearly 2 months.

Why are the close the games written up as the best? Many of these games were poor displays of the skills and feats that make Aussie Rules great.
These are the games for the TV watchers , who know nothing about the game, never buy a membership, never go to a game, watch the last five minutes, become experts then say it was 'a great game' only because it was close. This just what the AFL wants, TV watchers and hangers on.
Great games for supporters may be close, but are only great if your team wins, but are more likely to be the ones where your players, and perhaps the opposition showcase all of the marking, running, passing, goal kicking, tackles etc that are a feature of the Aussie Rules game. And sometimes when they do all of that and you lose, you can still say that it was a great game. One of the greats for me was that game against Essendon at the mCG in the early 90's , Ablett and Salmon shooting it out at either end. And we lost.

Is the GF in the list just because it was the GF? I didn't really rate the game that much as a spectacle, Was a fair amount of sloppy play & Saints didn't even kick a goal in the last ffs.

Apart from the Laughs at the saints expense & the fact The Cats made me a big wad of cash, If it was to be top 9 I would have it just there at 9th spot.

Saints v Cats season games were much better. Saints Essendon was a pearler also.

Anyhoo :thumbsu:

you could say the same for the anzac game, very ordinary until the last 2 minutes.
