I am with you KC.

Could be the genuine negating small defender we desperatly need to ensure Makepeace wins that Browlow we know is his if he gets a shot in the midfield.

Absolutely interested.

Yes and no.

Makepeace cannot be allowed to play as a small defender next year.

I believe Makepeace could be a genuine gun onballer if given a sustained chance.

Windsock still doesn't think he is in the best 22, and although it obvious as hell now, I can't wait to see how silly he looks next year.

:D

i can't believe this guy has been left out in the cold, we should make a big effort to get him over to arden street, he will take over cochrane's job and could even be used in the defence

I'm not as averse to Makepeace as you suggest so long as he lines up well outside the defensive 50 EVERY week. I just reckon there might be other midfielders at the club already who may start ahead of him at the beginning of next year.
However, if his form in the preseason games is anything like his last game, I'd be happy to see him taking ownership of one wing for the opening game of the real stuff!!!

Oh and I reckon torney would be a great pick up late in the draft. While I was critical of Denis for getting robbins on board last year, I reckon Torney is a type of player we just don't have at North at present. He is quite tall and quick for his size (187cm) and is competent overhead. He had a pretty good year last year (2001) and Darrne Crocker will be keen to take him with him when he comes home. (Yes - home - a concept that can be pretty sketchy for some...)

If we recruit another reject from another club I will goddamn throw up. ie Carlton, Sydney and in 2 years at the current rate North.

Not needed. Will Torney turn us into a top 4 side. NO.

Give Shannon Motlop a friggen game before bloody.

This attitude of redrafting hacks has got to stop.

Maybe if he was picked up late in the draft or in the preseason draft. Would hate to see us trade a decent player for him though. Just an average footballer IMO.
Then again his foot skills would fit into our senior team nicely at the moment.....

Jason Torney

- Polls well in the Club Best & Fairest ... never in the Brownlow. I kinda like that in a guy.
- At Tigerland, he usually takes the best small forward.
- Has done great blanketing jobs on Matthew Lappin, Phil Matera and Ronnie Burns in the last 12 months, though got an awful towelling from Michael Voss.
- Great hands, fearless, but disposal can be occasionally suspect in the 30-40 metre range.
- Has similar balance to John Blakey, and if Blakey had any flaws, they'd probably the same ones Torns has.
- He's 25 years of age with 118 games, including 45 from 47 in 2001/02 (including all 3 finals)
- Better still ... he's NOT David Bourke !! ... (Yeah, sorry 'bout him. I dunno what Pago was thinking either)

I must be honest with you guys, on the various Tiger boards we have running around the place, we've talked about who we could trade for the last 10-12 weeks (probably since you guys did us over in Round 11, and effectively blew our season away) ... and Jason Torney's name was NEVER raised.

Most of us are VERY surprised.

I'm surprised Richmond would delist a player who has played the last two seasons virtually IN FULL. Having said that, I've never really rated him.

Sure, as a squad player ranked 26-32 there's room for him, but it'll depend on if we are recruiting for potential 200 gamers or for short term (50-100 games) depth.

Wouldn't be distraught if we drafted him, but he'd be a fringe player methinks.

lets concentrate on what we want for carey.
we need a high draft pick, 1 2 or 3
or kane johnson
or simon goodwin

lets play hard ball.
lets start making uncompromised decisions.

forget torney.

remember d bourke?

torney could be one of the recruits of next year like robbins was for us this year....works hard, will be keen to impress, agree with his comparison with blakey and funnily enough i'm really starting not to rate s.motlop anymore when he kicks it he just bombs it....it really ****es me off

So he was just biding his time in Melbourne for the last 9 years?

Well we better not draft him, he'll stand out of footy A.Rocca style for a year by the sound of it... right.

Thats because Pagan shoved him down to defence and forced him to be a negating defender, to kick it long. He was forced into this to get a game.

Hopefully he hasn't been totally ****ed of, will hang around long enough, given some latitude to do what comes natural to him.

How many aborignal players are shoved down in defence. Pagan would play Burns, McLeod, Rioli, etc down in defence for 3 years.

our salary cap

say that torney was the player that would make us a premiership threat (like i said say), this 92.5% salary cap limit means we are extremely limited in whom we can pick up.

you pick him up and you go short on your list to save a no. x the base salary - $38,000 +.

otherwise you have to dump a highly paid player to put space in the cap. thats why any decent player from adelaide will be on-traded.

also need to consider that players have been asked to take a 10% pay cut.

Probably not.
But in a negotiation sense you start high and work toward a middle ground.
The Crows won't give up Johnson or Goodwin but we can ask can't we?.
Other clubs will most probably be involved so for instance Johnson may go to Richmond and you guys will swap Ottens for him.

The WA and SA clubs seem to have a massive advantage over Vic clubs when it comes to homesickness. There seems to be 4-5 from each state wanting to go home every year, and with only 2 teams they are in the drivers seats when it comes to making a deal.

rewind 5 years ....would you guys happily swap pick 1,2 or 3 for Ablett ? Be honest....
Carey will have 3-5 years left in him, especially now his body has had a year to recover. He has never suffered serious injuries except for shoulders and I don’t hear anyone saying that Judd only has 2 years left. Not only that, Carey is still one of the best forwards going around and could easily be the difference between the Crows winning a flag.
I don’t think we’ll get a top 5 pick, but a top 10 pick and a second round pick should be achievable. Looking at all the clubs bursting at the seems with their caps, its going to be difficult to on trade higher paid players and it doesn’t look like we can fit in any established players.
