Reading the comments made definitely makes it sound as if though the reports were correct however Petracca has got some degree of assurance by the club about changes. There was no denial about the rumours.

So probably best case scenario for Dees on 2 fronts. Petracca staying wasn’t really here nor there, it’s obviously good news but they were always going to get a massive trade haul anyway if he left, but more so some dickheads at the club might be kicked into gear (or off it) and get a big improvement in 2025.

I dare say he was told a trade to another big Victorian club just isn’t possible.

He is 29 when he plays his next game.. Unless you’re in your window it’s not really the right player. Anyone in their window don’t have a spare million to take on.

I reckon the league got involved too with this one. Came in and mediated a bit and said it hurts the AFL brand and the Demon's too much if a marquee player like that goes. Obviously a lot older than Judd was when he left but that was handled really well and he was coming back to Victoria. With Dangerfield he completed his contract and came to the AFL's favourite lovechild the Cats. Petracca leaving due to culture is a PR disaster but if they force him to stay and put on a face it makes him look like the disruptive one and it's all rosy at Melbourne which it clearly isn't.

This time next year might be very interesting, remembering that clubs being able to trade picks two drafts in advance will be introduced.

Far easier to get one player to stay than it is to face up to the commercial disadvantages the Victorian clubs that aren't in the Big 4 face. The leaking about small crowds would've been a red rag to a bull to some and a red alert to others.

Sorry if it's been asked a million times before but after the K.Roffe interview nearly made my head explode, I had to ask.. Why is it Trac and not Truck? Isn't the latter closer to the correct pronunciation??
I'd expect more from such an educated banch. 😉
