I'm not understanding this Hunter stuff.

Why would we set up a rival to win a flag? Future second seems unders to me considering his status and age demograph.

I understand stuff may have happened internally but it would want to be significant to consider trading him out. Can we not gut our midfield in one trade period?

It would make more sense to me that we're attempting to send a message to him.
It's either trade him, or pay out his contract. He won't be playing with the Bulldogs next year

Talk before start of trade period is that the club recognised we lacked KPD talent & depth. Rumours of Barrass & then Collins got everyone excited.

We needed 2 KPD’s, losing Cordy but gaining Jones left us in the same spot. Now losing Schache is another player that “could” have played that role in an emergency.

I really don’t want to have to play Naughton in defence, but F*CK! Can just see him being annoyed as he wants to be a forward me will soon request a trade home lol

Schache has had so many chances. So many. Not once has he nailed a spot.

Team is better gutting the midfield and not addressing lack of defensive depth. Ok
Gutting? Hunter isn't best 22. And we have addressed our defence by bringing in Jones (best 22) with Cordy leaving as a UFA (not best 22, and we can't stop a UFA leaving regardless). The draft is absolutely stacked for defenders this year and our hand is looking decent.

Do you truly believe we're a better side playing Hunter, and potentially relying on Khamis up forward again, over recruiting Lobb and letting Roarke take the wing?

You've taken out one defender and replaced with one more.

There is still a serious lack of depth... and your replacement is 32

Source: trust me bro
He's right. I have heard it from multiple sources as well.

I know people want to believe Whitten Oval is the land of rainbows and happy times but there have been real issues at the club this year.
I stand by past statements about Dunkley wanting to go being not overly tied to $$$.
Dunkley was welcome at the B&F with open arms, Hunter did not attend. Make of that what you will.

I understand, but it’s one less option we have. We are relying big time on Keath somehow not being completely broken again, or drafting a mature age KPD we have identified.

Just saying that it’s a long way from getting that gun KPD we crave, not helped by Brisbane pulling our pants down

I understand your point but cannot agree with “ addressed our defence” comment. Lose Cordy and Schache and gain only Jones? I believe our defence problem is greater than a need of a single player. I was hoping for more this trade period.

Dunkley and Hunter - gutting our midfield 😂

Our kicking efficiency will improve.

Schache has been great...for Footscray.

Cordy...well, we won't have to watch him trailing five metres behind oppo KPFs who end up kicking 5.

I’ll always love Hunter. Very sad things have disintegrated. Will always be a champion of the club in my eyes.

I’ll never forget his handball to Picken in the 2016 GF
I’ve been one to stand up for him too, was a super creative player at his best but things change unfortunately. I’m very happy to get his contract off the list, and that’s not even taking into account his off field issues which are obviously pretty severe - he’s just not good enough to be worth the trouble.

If things play out as they should we should have a bloody stacked draft hand next year and plenty of cap space - no excuses to not get talent in next year, I know we’ve been handicapped a bit this year but genuinely no excuses next. Happy to hit the draft hard this year even if it means bringing picks forward.

The list refresh is real, and overdue

TBH I think off-field is where we can best improve.
Lade is a massive help, and we'll get one more into the coaching staff.
Off-field distractions will subside.

Darcy is ridiculous. A real surprise, a mile ahead of where we expected to be and there are quite a few people at the club who think he'll be better than Marra.

In the same way people gushed about Macrae's first season and his willingness to train and get better, then Bont came along and people started whispering about some of the stuff he was doing in his first pre-season (both Murph and Matty Boyd have talked about it).

Going to have a helluva lot of cap space.

We were pretty consistently playing Schache up forward, I don't think we considered him a defender by the end of the year. So it's basically Cordy out, Jones in. Jones is the better player.

I'm not worried about the personnel we currently have, as I trust we're targeting players through the draft. Someone like Weddle could be playing quite early

Jones is a better defender than what we are losing and our draft hand is strengthened. Lobb as a 2nd ruck/forward gives us so much better flexibility.

Dunkley is a loss of course, but there is a queue wanting more midfield opportunities.

Otherwise we've cleared out aging depth and should end up with 6 or more R1, R2 draft picks over the next 2 drafts.

That adds up to a healthy list freshen for mine. Not a bumper period by any means but far from a disaster.
