he usually plays a bit up the field and forward obviously, he usually plays the small forward role.

Ok he has played a bit of time.
But he isn't the Mid we need is he ?

Stringer played mid field primarily in the TAC and the Dons think ( Trust in Dodo right) he can play in the middle predominantly.

Your opinions are always spot on mate. Oh my font size is an issue. Sorry precious. I hope it didn't hurt too much.
He was joking around mate. Your opinion while clearly in the minority here is just as valid as anyone else's. In fact this forum would be extremely boring if we all thought the same.

Most replies to you have been attempts at humour (most of which I found quite funny) so don't take them the wrong way.

It's been a few years since either played midfield.

Stringer was shaping as a midfielder before breaking his leg badly in his junior year, and was never quite the same.

Smith came second in the 2014 Giants B&F playing midfield before being squeezed out by the weight of talent on the list.

Well I am happily wrong about Smith. I honestly hope he can add loads to our midfield team. Cause this is what we need.

To quote Dermie earlier this year:

"Stringer is fantastic when in the centre for a bounce. He is almost Judd-like with his explosive running power to get away from the congestion. Once again, he is also suited to that scenario because he is in the immediate vicinity of the ball".

This.

Here is another Emma Quale article talking about how he broke his leg & had to learn how to play again. It mentions that he was playing as a midfielder.

The theory with Stringer as a forward goes that after he broke his leg - he was so desperate to be drafted that he focused on playing forward rather than mid. Certainly there is less running. The guy had a limp for a bit pushing his body to the limit & still played in the hope of impressing scouts.

In this article Matthew Scarlett wanting Stringer to play defence also talks about him as being a Midfield / Forward from Pioneers:

The Dogs language has changed in less than subtle ways in case you hadn't noticed. Before trade week Stringer was being thrown to the wolves. Now the Dogs are talking about backing their system and turning him around. "Stringer is out" before Trade week is now "We will keep him if we don't get the trade we want at the trade table".
The Dogs language changed because they ****ed up.

They realised they can't throw him under the bus and then demand a top pick.

Hence the "subtle change."

Stringer is not going back to the Dogs. It will not happen.

It's a desperate - Grant had another go at it and they know it.

If he leaves I hope that he comes to us.

However now that we don't have pick 11 anymore I am not confident we can trade for him. The Tigers, Saints & perhaps Geelong have trades that the Dogs want.

If Connors can work out a deal that the Dogs like with the Saints / Tigers & convince Stringer then he will not come to Essendon.

Again hope I am very wrong on this. Just not sure Dodo has made the right call giving up 11.

Dude, he is coming to Essendon and not for a future first. You are worrying yourself for nothing.

Connors has said he's committed too Essendon. They aren't going to go back on their word.

And the bulldogs aren't going to risk keeping stringer. It could destabilise the team even more. When the captain of the club says they havent been happy with stringer for years they just don't want him around the playing group. He's out.

Below dot points are a high level timeline of events that have occurred in the trade period between Mon 9/10 - Fri 13/10:
  • Dodo placed pick #11 on the table between GCS, GWS & WB and asked for the best offer which would enable us to complete our other trades
  • At least three separate proposals were prioritised and put forward to the Dogs involving pick #11, all of which were declined
  • Stringers Management were reluctant to officially nominate Essendon early in the trade period
  • GWS were more flexible in their negotiations for pick #11, as they didn't have any first round draft picks
  • Subsequently, we were offered a deal simply too good to refuse
We may not have secured Stringer to this point, but it's not been without trying; we've given the dogs ample opportunity.

Whilst Stringer's best is significant, one can't ignore the fact that Stringer's value has depreciated due to performance/personal baggage. I hope we get him, but I won't lose sleep if we don't.

As a paying member of the club, I'm very pleased with the way the club have managed the trade period so far.

All very nice but in no way shape or form addressed my post.

I think it's even simpler than that, in a self-serving way.

Industry seems confident that 11 plus third round for Stringer and 26 was offered and that the four man list management committee at the Dogs did not agree unanimously.
