Different type of player but what does everyone think of Ben McKay? Will apparently seek a trade for more opportunity and would come relatively cheap and already physically developed.

I haven’t seen him this year but he’s an absolutely huge unit and can play both ends and a little in the ruck too

Absolutely. Would play him forward.

Average forward from what I've seen in the VFL but a good defender. Don't think he fits our needs honestly.

What if Hartley leaves?

Seems like a bit of a reclamation project but he’s got physical tools, he’s still only 21 and we’ve shown as good an ability to develop key defenders as any other club in the AFL.

Key defender over 200cm has been a need for yonks

Yikes... far out a whole board of Bombers willing to sh*t all over Ryder because he left during the drug saga. Who are you to say whether he was or wasn't effected by it and whether leaving helped his wellbeing?

Maybe because we're years removed from it now, but regardless of the mishandling of the situation by AFL/ASADA/WADA, the most disappointing thing was that our players were put in that circumstance through no fault of their own. Just young men who were playing footy and trusted a club that should've been taking better care of them.

I don't blame any of them who wanted to leave and remove themselves from that situation. We are seeing more and more stories about how mental health is effecting athletes (Francis, Buddy, Boyd, Steven, etc.) but have completely turned our back on someone who was put in that situation because of our club.

From a list management perspective he is a better back up then Zac Clarke but ideally he would still be #3 on our list (TBC/Draper/Ryder). Would he be willing to be paid accordingly and see his role as that as well? Who knows. I do think it is a nice olive branch to show we take care of our own as Ryder hits the twilight of his career.
Leaving us is not the reason why he isn’t liked by Essendon fans. It’s the way he left. This is the guy that held the club at ransom when we were down, went on a woe is me media circus in an effort to break the contract he signed after everything already happened for Port and Port only (who happened to be the up and coming side), brought all of this up in the lead up to finals and reportedly had training set up with Port while he was with us.

Crameri, Melksham, Hibberd and Carlisle don’t get hate when all of them left post saga for a fresh start.

First of all, I think he’s cooked from a fitness perspective so I don’t think we need another ruckman on the sidelines, but I’d rather he stay at Port or go to another club. Crawling back to us when Port dumps him leaves a bad taste.

Honestly I'm banking on Zerk being AFL ready next year as next in line (read: 4th/5th) and we can look at an 18 year old like de Koning in the draft.

Also it would make little sense for McKay to move from North where he could legitimately be number 2 or 3 next year with the Thompson retirement to a place where he could be 6th in line. If he's leaving to play more AFL here isn't the place. Somewhere like the Dogs o Hawthorne should be his target.

Definitely keen.

Been playing as a defender for North but i reckon he has some potential as a KPF

McKay will get plenty of hype because of his name. He’s half the player his brother is.

I’d be asking the question about Amon from port. Could be a sneaky DFA and a handy one at that.

What we’re going to spend our first pick on a tall defender? Have greater need in the inside midfield or even small forward if Tippa and possibly Raz leave

He's a huge guy and has really good hands but his mobility is questionable.

I'd prefer to use the pick on a kid of similar size that can move.

I know Amon is happy at Port for the time being (much happier than this time last year), but wouldn't knock back the chance to come home if it was there I reckon.

I dunno about you guys but I enjoy watching Jake Carlisle fail...

Not at all.

Left with class, e.g. agreeing to meet with Hawthorn to keep pressure on Saints, and it's quite clear he was a pretty fragile kid who was quite possibly the worst type of personality to deal with the scandal.

I want him to come home. I'd say I'd forgive him if I could get past the extreme guilt for his having been exposed to 2012 to 2015.

There was an article in Hun a day or two ago that said he’s looking to go back to Vic.

Interesting Tim Watson on SEN this morning was asked if he thought bring back Ryder would be a good idea and his reply was....”ah no I don’t think so”.

Seemed to infer there may be some resentment or push back.

Sam de Koning is a third round prospect. I'd be using our two seconds on midfielders.
