Tom Morris mentioned on 3AW tonight that Saints May be in for Sheila and was hearing possible figures of $1.3m per year for 6 years!! **** off, that would be insane by Saints if remotely true.

Can't we just use our first pick on the draft?

We don't need Gaff and Shiel isn't coming to Essendon

If you analyse the strengths and weaknesses of our mids then we do actually need a genuine runner added to the midfield. What we have for contested ball is actually pretty deep. It is just that some of it is probably 12-24 months away from their body size and reputations matching their potential. Gaff also comes to us with keeping pick 8. The only danger is salary cap pressure because of him. Gaff, Zaka and Heppell means our midfield covers a lot of ground. Parish's best work will be at the stoppage as he develops. Merrett will be best as an inside/outside mid. Smith, Myers and Langford are best suited around the contest.

In the end Richmond win a lot of the ball around the ground, not at the stoppages, because they run bloody hard to have plus one around the ball constantly then continue running to chase and harrass the ball carrier for the opposition. This leads to either a tackle or a long kick to their intercept marking defenders.

Potentially we could have Hooker, Hurley, Francis and Gleeson all behind the ball next year. If we have the same midfield pressure on the opposition, good luck not kicking it to one of our four elite interceptors. With the speed of McKenna and Saad we can also run and kick long to Daniher and Stewart, with Stringer, Tippa and Fanta taking advantage of the chaos that can create. More running mids are essential to maintain that plus one at each contest and to stretch their zone. Stringer, Tippa, Fanta and the 6th forward all have to be part of the midfield rotation so that we have more run through sheer weight of numbers.

The only other mid type I'd consider would be Dangerfield or some other contested beast who can burst away. We could play him ahead of Parish and pick another running mid. Players like that are just bloody hard to find. Like a very good ruckman.

Apart from Smith no one in that group has ability to win a stoppage and burst away like Shiel

$5 he picks Hawks

campaigners already pipd us with O'Meara and i get the feel the same will happen with Shiel.
O’Meara is and was always a gamble. 6 games last year, this year was good - but when it counted in the last final knee issue. Good luck to the hawks but he is and always will be a ticking timebomb - don’t let it burn.

I’m curious - people aren’t actually hitting refresh on their browsers thinking there will magically be a new development every five minutes yet, are they?

I’m beginning to have my doubts.

I'm flicking between Twitter, Facebook and here religiously. Have also trained a couple of pigeons to sift through Dodoro's bins. Nothing to report yet (bin night must be on Mondays).

Anyone Know When We Announce Who We Take With Pick 8? I’m So Nervous And Can’t Fall Asleep
Hopefully fulfills the most important criteria:

He Supported Essendon When He Was A Kid And Had A Poster Of James Hird On His Wall.

I hope you’ve started procuring marble to start on that statue of him you were going to build.
