It's mostly the media landscape that is problematic I think. The ability to self-publish unfiltered crap on social media particularly, although the kind of media that has checks and balances on it is hardly any better as a result of trying to compete with social media.

Spotlights have to be put on ourselves though. That tweet has got absolutely nothing going for it. There's nothing in there that suggests it should be taken seriously whatsoever, so if you do quote that and respond to it seriously, that's on you for being a fool.

(and also, a link wasn't even posted to the tweet so there existed the possibility that it may not even be a real tweet. Here is the link to it: )

I'm not a big user of twitter, but can anyone suggest who are the better few to follow at this time of year? Ones that tend to know whats going on and aren't just throwing every dart they can get their hands on?

What's really useful and important, in my opinion of course, are the accounts that accurately report what is being said elsewhere. Over the next month (and past month), there'll be a million quotes about how 'Journalist X said this and that' and then no attribution is given so who knows if Journalist X actually said that? Now, for stuff that appears in the papers, attribution inevitably follows, even if it's a bit delayed. But the stuff said on radio, that stuff can be reported by one poster and who knows if anyone else heard it...and that's where bad things happen.

So anyway, I would follow the Official Trade Radio account: https://twitter.com/traderadio?ref_src=twsrc^google|twcamp^serp|twgr^author

Because, as I recall from last season, the account does a fairly good job providing accurate quotes and clips to the things said on it's broadcast, and fairly soon after they're said. SEN is probably the same. So you can know for sure yourself if the thing was actually said. I think they also flood your timeline with a million tweets though. In terms of the gossipy/insider ones, it's just a minefield.

What the **** is wrong with the football landscape?!!?!?!?!

Jack Martin worth two first rounders, a former top 10 draft pick who hadn't come on as hoped being in trade speculation, a 3 year former top 5 pick worth at least that again?

This is today's day and age folks.

What? It's a random twitter account posting nonsense. How can you not see that?

A players value is determined by what a club is prepared to pay.

Guaranteed, no club will give up two first rounders for him.

If the tweet holds any merit (which is unlikely), it just sets the scene that they won’t let him go easily.
Duh
Hence "out of the market" as per my original post

Don’t know how much truth to it but would be pretty happy with them both for the right price

So Gold Coast want 2 first rounders (for Jack Martin) and I can't imagine Tom Scully being worth anything less than a first + second.

People need to get off the gear it looks like.

I think the smartest move is to ignore unverified twitter accounts posting trade rumours.

Even the verified ones are mostly full of shit.

Can anyone help me understand what we are and are not allowed to do with our current and future first round pick? So we spent last years first rounder, are we allowed to spend both this years and next years first round picks on trades or do we have to keep at least one? ... or is it all a fugazzi and there’s no rule around trading your first rounders?

It’s a wazi, it’s a woozy, it’s fairy dust.

It isn’t real, it’s not on the elemental chart.

Scully is now worth SFA and the giants need to clear him for cap space ie clearing Mumford out. He will come cheap and would be worth the risk reward after severe injury. Hes a 2nd round pick at best in my trade value.

Jack Martins a jet. Id be happy to give away a 1st round pick for him.

Scullly is not worth just a second rounder. That's dreaming. Even with his injury, he has proven form.

Just walked dog around MCG with young daughter. So jealous of Pies and Eagles supporters lapping up the moment. It's been too long since we were there. Recruit whoever it takes to get there.

While other clubs are hanging onto first round draft picks in this super draft as though their life depends on it, perhaps we should be trading players rather than giving our draft picks away. Especially given clubs that are putting claims on their players that are way over their worth.

Won’t be watching the gf at all but I hope the Eagles win. They can take the cup back to Perth and we won’t have to hear about it.

What in the world are you on about? Scully is one year removed from being in the AA squad of 40 and being one of their best few in all of their finals last year, is only making about 500k a year because of the initial wink-wink-nudge-nudge mega deal he signed for them and is only 27. If they're going to want to keep any of them it's him.

Mumford retired due to injury at 31.
