Go easy on me boys, I feel like we can have an amicable discussion about the Dunkley situation outside of a few trolls.

How do we feel about this:

Pick 12 and Dunkley for any two of 6, 7 and 8?

My thoughts were we could then combine those two and present them to Adelaide + something else for pick 1 and have Jamarra + pick 1.

You'd effectively swap Daniher and Saad (or 6) for Dunkley and 12.
I'd do that for sure but not sure the Doggies would.

PS I'll go easy as you can't be that bad, you do support the Celts after all. ;)

I’ll be extremely upset if we use two this year and don’t have a first rounder next year in a stronger draft
Ok, but we can use two 1st rounders this year and not use one next year?

Umm deal.
:D

Id be happy with that. 1x top 10 pick, 1x mid-late teens pick and dunkley is a good outcome.

The great Lore says yes so it has to be the case!
It probably depends on the wording of the rule, which has never been published so the AFL could just ... interpret... it however they like. But in theory the two firsts this year would count as the rolling four years so should be fine.

The next thing is that you can only trade either the first rounder or the other future picks, so if we give up our future first we'd have to have a future 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th.

From what I hear Collingwood are in the same position as you this year for next year so they want less first rounders because a bid on Daicos will be high. An option I saw here was for us to trade one of our picks for Collingwoods first next year then offer both ours and Collingwoods to the dogs. You would be gambling a little a ladder positions thou.
Collingwood's first next year could be a quiet little prize to hold onto.

We need 2 in 4 right? So 2 in 2020 would cover us. We need at least 1 this year but in theory we could have 2+ this year and none next year I believe (I’d rather spread them but it would be possible)

Think our goal is definitely to get one each for Daniher and Saad. That’ll leave us with three this year and one next year.

Use two, trade two (hopefully for Dunkley).

Daniher

"Sources close to the discussion"
Sam McClure and Michael Gleeson - The Age said:
Joe Daniher could be a Brisbane Lions player as early as Friday morning, with parties to the deal confident of a smooth move for the free agent.

Sources close to the discussions are confident the Lions' contract offer to Daniher will draw a first-round compensation pick – currently pick seven – for the full-forward.

If the compensation is of that level it is more likely than not the Bombers would accept the pick and move on. The free agency window opens this Friday when clubs such as Essendon can learn of the offer for their player, discover what the compensation will be and then make a decision.

Daniher was already on a high contract at Essendon and terms comparable to what he has been on would put Essendon in the frame for first-round draft pick as compensation.

The Lions are confident and hopeful the contract is sufficient to avoid a messy trade.

Essendon will be central players in the free agency and trade windows, with a raft of other deals also to work through this off-season.

No source "look set to receive":
Jay Clark and Jon Ralph - Herald Sun said:
Joe Daniher appears on his way to the Brisbane Lions and destined for his much-craved fresh start. With the tall forward expected to get more $700,000 a season, Essendon’s compensation just went up a notch.

Essendon looks set to receive the first-round compensation pick it craves to release spearhead Joe Daniher to Brisbane.

More than 12 months after Daniher tried to move to Sydney Swans, the goalkicker will secure the fresh start he wanted under coach Chris Fagan at the Lions.

Importantly, the Lions look set to pay him in excess of $700,000 a season which will net the Bombers pick No. 7 in the draft under free agency compensation rules.

If the salary does not meet the first-round compensation trigger, Essendon will match the free agency bid which will force a trade.

Brisbane will lodge its bid on Friday when free agency opens.

The Lions are in a great spot to challenge for a premiership next year after list manager Dom Ambrogio has helped spearhead deals for Brownlow medallist Lachie Neale and now Daniher.

While the Bombers have three days to match, they will not match if the compensation nets them a first-round pick.

First-round compensation is a huge result for the Bombers and list manager Adrian Dodoro who would have picks No. 6 and No. 7 (compensation selection) and Carlton’s first-round choice for Adam Saad.

It is also a great result for Daniher’s management company TLA after hitting a snag in negotiations between the Swans and the Bombers last year.

Saad

Skepticism:
Sam McClure and Michael Gleeson - The Age said:
Adam Saad has requested a trade to Carlton, though early discussions suggest a deal could prove problematic, and bringing in young midfielder Jye Caldwell from the Giants and potentially Josh Dunkley from the Western Bulldogs.

"The Bombers":
Jay Clark and Jon Ralph - Herald Sun said:
The Bombers are adamant Saad, who has been a top-three player at Essendon in recent seasons, commands a first-round pick.

But Carlton may ask for a later pick back from Essendon to smooth out the deal.

Bitter rivals Carlton and Essendon will dig in for a fortnight of tough negotiations on Adam Saad despite the Blues’ willingness to include their No. 7 selection in a trade.

Essendon’s initial ambit claim for Saad included a wish list of stars including Sam Walsh or Charlie Curnow, but now believes he is worthy of a straight swap for that prized early selection.

Carlton is willing to use that selection but would want a later draft pick back given the high worth of a top-10 pick.

Carlton is aware it could attempt to secure Saad in the pre-season draft for nothing by putting an astronomical price on his head in the first year of his deal but it would be a last resort.

It could also attempt to split that pick No. 7 by trading it to a club like Geelong for pick 11 and 18 and hand No. 11 to the Dons.

But Essendon is adamant it needs that top-10 selection.

If the Bombers secured that selection they would have their own pick six, Carlton’s pick seven, could secure pick 26 for departing forward Orazio Fantasia, and might get an end-of-first-round compensation pick for Joe Daniher.

Dunkley
Sam McClure and Michael Gleeson - The Age said:
Essendon are very keen on trading for the contracted Bulldogs midfielder, but as yet, Dunkley has not contacted the Dogs asking to be traded and the Bulldogs have insisted he is a required player on a long-term deal and he is going nowhere.

Jay Clark and Jon Ralph - Herald Sun said:
With three first-round picks in hand, Essendon would be in a strong position to hand one of them back to Western Bulldogs for gun clearance-winner Josh Dunkley in a trade.

Brown
Sam McClure and Michael Gleeson - The Age said:
Since Daniher expressed his desire to exercise his free agency rights, Essendon have explored contingencies for players who could come in. Sources suggest there has been some tyre kicking approaches regarding players such as Ben Brown from North Melbourne.

Fantasia
Quoting Adelaide LM on Trade Radio:
Sam McClure and Michael Gleeson - The Age said:
The Crows also distanced themselves from contracted Essendon forward Orazio Fantasia, who appears destined to return home to South Australia.

"It'd be fair to make that assessment [that he has chosen Port Adelaide]. We haven't heard that directly from Orazio, so it's not our place to say, but we haven't heard from him for a few weeks now."

Melbourne stalwart Nathan Jones will pull on the red and blue again in 2021, signing a one-year contract extension with the club. That will make it 16 seasons for the 32-year-old.

Thanks Bunk Moreland.

I say it every year, but these kids’ names just get weirder and weirder.

I defy anybody to honestly say they’ve ever met a “Thilthorpe”.

It's like someone with a speech impediment grew up idolising Ian Thorpe and tried ton name their kid after him.

I was over in the UK at the pub with workmates and managed to get a bombers game on the telly. They were in tears over Gumbleton and winderlich. Couldn't believe they were real names.

Not bad. Slowest backline of all time though. Need to find some players with foot speed. A fit Ambrose is a lock in a key defensive post.

Pretty good, except why have we traded for 2MP just to have him as an emergency?
He would probably start in place of Jones.

Otherwise keep that pick and see if we can get Callow who can potentially fight it out with Jones.

I've heard from a credible source. Me. That Bevo/bulldogs and Dunkley have had a large falling out during the early part of the season.

Unlike the stringer scenario the bulldogs decided to "punish" him for that indiscretion by not allowing him to play in the middle. Dunkley has then told the club if you aren't going to play me there you can go forth an multiply.

Bulldogs then counter by saying we'll do a deal with you. Play out the season as if you are happy and no issues and we'll deal you to the team of your choosing but we still get adequately compensated.

This is why bulldogs put in the token lip service "we will not trade him" Dunkley is not going official with the I want to be traded until the paperwork can be put through so that everyone wins.

OR papers essentially halve their journalist expense by copying what other papers lead with and working out if it was right later and do a sneaky edit.

Is McDonald worth trading that hard for
Could get odriscoll, perkins and callow, treacy or ford with those 3 picks.
Our midfield would be set for a long while, we'd have callow, Wright and jones to work on as forwards, and perkins looks a classy fwd/mid type. A 2nd langford doesnt bother me one bit
