GREATER WESTERN SYDNEY:We could see quite a few discarded players end up at GWS this year, given teams are culling their lists, a few could find themselves given another chance with the newest franchise. Unrestricted Free Agent Brent Thornton has been linked to the giants, as too have discarded North Melbourne midfielder Gavin Urhuart, and Mark Seaby who cannot get a game at the Swans. There is word Clinton Young could be a Giant, as too could fellow Hawthorn player Tom Murphy. The Giants will be aiming to get as many “free players” as possible, and won’t want to give up anybody as they attempt to add some mature players to their young list.
HAWTHORN:The hawks don’t have any glaring deficiencies, but they would ideally love another defender to play a lock down role role, which is why the Hawks are really hoping they can snag Jarred Rivers or Mitch Brown. They’ve been linked to Toy, but given that he’s only 20 and somewhat unproven at AFL level, the hawks would be wary giving up a fortune for him. The Hawks surprisingly to some have been linked to Greg Broughton from the dockers, but given how many back flankers – come – midfielders the hawks have, it’s hard to believe they’ve be after another. Sharrod Wellingham has been linked to the hawks, and Shane Savage has been touted as a player the hawks would give up to get that deal done. Maverick Weller, a hawks supporter as a young lad wants out of the suns, and has been heavily linked to the Hawks.

Has this source got any credibility? Actually, since they're regurgitating radio rumours, I'm not sure how much stock you can put in it.

It will be interesting to see how the club approaches the trade period in light of the recent loss.
The old adage that offence wins matches and defense wins premierships seems to have been proven again so I suspect they will concentrate on another defender.
Murphy has next to no future at the club and we could live without Youngy as well if GWS came with a reasonable offer.
I take it Weller is a mid at 182cm's?

From previous years our club has been pretty procative in targetting a specific player so i am sure they will have identified a few to come over this year as well.

Can't see where Weller would fit in but I wouldn't mind getting Colin Sylvia very hard around the footy and just needs a disciplined side to bring the best out of him.

I've heard the club wants Sharrod Wellingham at Hawthorn. We apparently also showed interest in Goddard (which club didn't?). I've also heard the club wants Minson from the Western Bulldogs. Ellis/Young are apparently being looked at by North/Dogs. This is what I've heard - I'm not sure how credible it all is but my source is a former Hawk player.

As Wang is a rookie, and the list needs to be cut by 2 spots( due to GWS &GC concessions ending) his lack of form at the end of the year may cost him.

Sunny_, you know how it works? I write on here that we are looking at Gary Ablett and he wants out of the suns, you can garantee that by tomorrow someone is tweeting it, it's spreading, and before you know it some hack journo is lifting it from here and saying "lots of chatter that Ablett is being sought by the Hawks", or "it is believed that Ablett is looking to return to Melbourne".

Some of the names already linked to us are amusing.

Just a point ..I wrote about the Wellingham situation a week ago as I did the Rivets interest ( and I stand by it what ever the out come ), it makes it tuff ta post if a source/name is needed in the post .To name ia source is more than like gunna cost you that source ...not sure how the mods want this to work ...?

Posting a rumour/speculation/unconfirmed is fine as long as you say so. We just want to avoid the situation where people try to pass stuff off as fact, or that it's been referenced somewhere else.

I did hear on the Saturday morning radio show with Hutchy, Ole mat Picks and Dr Turf that we are into Brian Lake from the bulldogs. Apparently the doggies would release as they want to build a young team up and if the Hawks were prepared to offer the right deal he may be ours. I would think we would get 2yrs max out of Brian, but if physically and mentally fit - he sure would straighten us up. But what price tag would he come with? I'm guessing he would have to be paid less at Hawks that Dogs - Premiership may be the sweetener!! I would take him over Rivers any day of the week an if the Tigers have Chaplin, then Lake might be best available.

Yep, the old "Lake to hawks", followed by nothing is a prime example from years gone by.

No reference as to whether it was on SEN, heard from a player, a journo, a source, or whether it was just a passing thought.

Hawks perceived backline weakness = Hawks are looking at 'insert every other bloke who has ever played full back before' rumour year in year out.
We really should just reopen the trade threads of years gone by as it will cover the majority of the rumours to be honest.
Last year Mitchell was happy to go if it meant we got Jager or something-a-rather and Sewell was expendable because we had enough slow midfielders. It was on par with SEN for goodness sake!
