Trade Prospects - defenders

hawthorn should make a big play for paddy ryder.
he is a gun.
just what we need.
gillham struggles on the opposition's second forward consistently, let alone the first when croad is out.

Big mistake taking Dowler ahead of Ryder. One trading choice that we got wrong.

Unfortunately, don't think Dowler has what it takes to be an AFL player.

I really like the north defender who has played on Buddy the last two times we have played them, I think he accounted exceptionally well for himself.

I would be stoked if we could get him. Not sure of his name????

EDIT: Josh Gibson.

EDIT: Josh Gibson.

Josh Gibson isn't a key defender.

No need for another third defender, since we already have Gilham and Murphy on our list.

you could try to trade for Toby Thurstans, he is an alright defender who is good on 2nd tall forwards.

Personally, I don't believe there are going to be any KEY defenders to trade for. Most will either be under contract, out of reach, or just not good enough...

Continue with what we have (remember we are ranked fourth in defense in the competition), and draft a big unit in the draft to mould as our key defender...

Do you think thorp is over rated,or are you talkn in generally?IMO we are too quick to judge kids,i think because of freaks like buddy,.

I'm not saying he's overrated... but i guess you could put that argument forward considering that he hasn't really performed at the top level.

I just meant to say that a lot of hawks supporters instantly think if we put Mitch Thorp up for trade, everyone would jump for him and Collingwood would throw Nathan Brown on the table... I highly doubt this. Brown has a great record as a youngstser at the top level. Thorp only has people talking up his ability. Two very different things.

Started a thread in Ports board asking what if any chance we had of gettin Chaplin and what it would take. Was about 50/50 split but some thought our 1st rounder and Boyle or Dowler may be enough.

Personally i would take it in a heart beat. Wats every1 else think...too much?

I would be willing to trade Roughead for a key defender. Maybe Mitch Brown but he isnt good enough yet for a straight swap.

Really? I would never ever want to trade Roughy. The duo of Roughy and Buddy strikes fear into the hearts of defenders all over the AFL. If anything, he could be a very handy key defender himself.

Chaplin for Roughead? know itll probably never happen and as much as i rate Chaps we would undoubtedly have to throw a pick/another player in there. might not be as crazy as it sounds though.

Well it should be noted that the club does not have as many sleepless nights with regards to our defence as some posters

They are quite happy with the output of Gilham and Croad in the key posts and are comfortable that our defence can stand up against any team...12-2 suggests that aswell.

Future looks bright - Thorp is a Jet, WILL NOT BE TRADED and can easily fill a Key Position anywhere on the Ground.

He's Big
He's strong
He runs like the wind.
He has heaps of mongrel and his skill are exquisite

Be patient Hawks

4-5 more weeks of good solid Traiining and getting through games in the magoos and he'll be brought straight into the seniors - REGARDLESS OF FORM in the magoos.

That you can take to the BANK.:thumbsu:

I think its kinda sad that the guys we are saying we need Pelchen could of drafted for us - like Ryder instead of Dowler and Nathan Brown instead of Thorp.

I just dont understand why he thought we needed so many forwards for 3 years in the draft in a row when we had already traded Johnny Hay and only had Croady who was big down in the backline - and when we already had Buddy and Ruffy.

If the team is looking to draft a young defender, one that will stand the test of time and fit in with the team age profile, who are the nominees: Brown from Collingwood, Warnock from Melbourne, Graham and Wilkes from WC, Chaplin and Carlile from Port, Ryder from Essendon. Any other nominees and who would be available 2009/2010 for trade

Mitch Thorp is playing at CHB for Box Hill and racking up plenty of possessions. He must of pissed off the umpires last week because everytime he went near his opponent they gave a marking infringement against him. Was ridiculous...

Anyway, he's getting some experience in the position and will hopefully play the next month at CHB, then get a go after we've played Sydney, Geelong, Saints and Pies. I think Thorp will develop into a Nathan Bock type in the same way that Xavier Ellis is a developing Nick Dal Santo. So, I think we just stick with what we've got.

The only two worth trading for are Mundy and Chaplin. I'd give up our first round pick and a fringe player for either

We've been fortunate that Franklin and Roughead have turned out to be as good as they have been this season.

Drafting Dowler was to ensure that we had a back-up to either player should they not turn out as well as predicted pre-draft.

It's called working the percentages.

Gonna be hard to get a game at the end of the year if all your guarantees come in, TD
