Mod group - Johns,Neagle,Hocking,Winderlich,Daniher and Williams.
I was there a bit early and saw that Johns was out doing a bit of sprint work which included some 100 run throughs and a few 20 meter sprints. Whatever injury problem he has is/was only minor .
The best news was Gumby trained well. Was only a bit of a cramp on wednesday.:thumbsu:
Myers and Pears are having a few minor problems with training at the moment. Both have been doing around 1/2 or 3/4 of the work and have been consulting with the Physio's a fair bit. Nothing looks to be seriously wrong.
Tom Bellchambers is going along well. Good skills for a ruckman and can pick the ball up off the ground well. He still has a bit of a lumbering running style but his fitness levels look really good.
While we are talking ruckman both Laycock and Hille continue to impress on the track. Both are looking lean and very fit.
Overall training today was the best for the week. Very sharp and focused with good skill levels. The drills continue to contain lots of running and 30 to 50 meters pass's.Compared to last year we are doing a lot less running through the center with 3 or 4 handballs and more of players running , taking a bounce and then passing the footy 30 meters plus. There have been more in close hanball drills where players have been under pressure to get hanballs out to a player/players in the clear and lots of what they call match awareness drills. The agaility drill that was on Bomber TV with the two Parramatta players also gets used a bit.

Great news with Gumby. :thumbsu:
Can't wait to see him play again once fit. The first game I saw of him in the VFL was unbelievable.. he was doing what he liked - when he liked. That was the first or second game last year and then got injured on and off most of the year.

Great Bellchambers is pushing himself. Our ruck division is thin after the major two so we'll need a strong body for back-up.

Thanks ant :thumbsu:

I like the news about Gumbleton, touch wood he keeps training well with no injury scared.
Also positive to hear we have 3 ruckman training well this season. Hopefully they all push each other to reach better levels. I think Laycock is capable of really lifting a few gears.

Has Leroy and Courtenay maintained that intensity or dropped off a bit?

Thanks for the report ant.

It would appear from reading the training reports and a comparison from other years that their is a more conservative approach being taken to "early signs"

For example if a player feels a twinge, cramp or anything out of the ordinary they are now consulting the physio, and are then taken off full training until it is clear what the issue is.

Do you think this is a change of injury management from the fitness staff or is it a different mindset from the players now that they understand that they must be careful with the soft tissue injury warning signs and are consulting the physio now rather than hoping it will be ok?

Great news about Bellchambers - Do you feel it is possible that his around the ground work isn't as bad as what it was perceived to be, due to his running style and with the extra fitness he may surprise this year?

Both have continued to train well :thumbsu:

The different approach started last year with more attention to detail as far as rehab from injures go. Now we have a full time rehab coach as well i would say that the focus is now on catching injuries early and getting players working on the injuries quickly to make sure the time spent not training is as minimal as possible.

The handball drill made me smile most.

Our decision mkaing under pressure excluding Watson and Hird was non-existent for the last few years.

Hopefully Teamwork is the name of the game now, becuase we were a bunch of individuals under Sheedy.

Good signs.
