Did you see McMahon's kick in the first quarter that went straight to the opposition when he could have kept running? The start of the play looked dangerous and threatening (as most of McMahon's attacks do), but his kicking isn't always precise. He does stuff up, you just have to learn to admit it.

Gee......McMahon stuffs up sometimes, Now there's a revelation. I know when I see McMahon running with the ball I'm confident he will hit his target 9 times out of 10. I think you're aim is misdirected.

Simple. Anyone with half a brain would realise he was delisted by Brisbane after only playing a couple of games for them. Would Brisbane keep him if he were good? If he was something better than "no good", don't you think Brisbane would have tried to trade him rather than delisting him?

And compared to the majority of 640 odd other AFL players, he is a dud.

Wow Xbox... so I guess then we should be sacking Scott Clayton and Eade & hiring you as our recruiting & coaching guru..since they must have less than the half a brain that you say is all that is required to see that Baird can't play...given they "thought" they saw enough in him to warrant a selection in the national draft???
How you could even try to jusify your off hand comment last week for Baird to be injured so Harbrow could be promoted, is just further illustration you've matured none over the off season.

We are but 2 games into the preseason... you and all the other Chicken Littles should be a little more restrained in your rush to judgment on what was nothing more than a glorified practice match.
Sure we played awful last night.. but look at it from another pespective.... its certainly going to well and truly ensure these guys are focussed on the main prize come round one.. and are under no illusions success is just going to fall into their laps.

Yeah, but Brisbane didn't decide to promote him. That's what I was getting at. I thought that was as good as being delisted.

They wanted to keep him on the rookie list. Brisbane decided to promote Allen ahead of him so he left because of the interest at Collingwood and the Western Bulldogs and didn't want to play behind a player who's Dad got him a full time gig. What would you do stay on the Rookie list?

Eade wants him to play down back this year and has been working at it most of the pre-season. I don't think he is suited for the role I'd rather see him used up forward than back.

I'm not giving up on a player 2 games into the Pre-Season. I know he's probably never going to be a superstar but he'll be servicable for the Bulldogs this year and into the future. But I guess you know a lot better than anyone else around here or at the club.

In Greg Williams first tryout, Carlton didn't even list him. What a dud that guy must have been. I can't believe Geelong gave him a second chance; what could they have been thinking?

A small but significant percentage of recycled players become good contributers and you can't tell who they will be by focussing on their first effort. At the Bulldogs we've had Liberatore, Petraglia, Foster, Romero just to name a few.

He showed me one decent game last year. It was against Richmond and I thought we might have found a player. I was hoping beyond hope that he would be one player to really take that next step this year, and it hasn't happened. Very disappointing.

So you thought he was 'decent' and that 'we might have found a player' after his game against Richmond. You do realise that's the last AFL game (regular season) he has played?

I agree that he needs to take 'that next step this year', but to say 'it hasn't happened' after 2 NAB cup games is absurd.

You go from rating his last regular season game for us to writing him off as a 'dud' after 2 NAB Cup games. I struggle to see the logic.

I agree, he looks more suited to the forward 50 than down in the back half. His quick kick under pressure to the goalsquare in the last quarter to Higgins (or was it Robbins?).. which resulted in a goal was about his only real positive contribution for the night. Will definitely need to work hard with Werribee this season, but his inexperience down back was plain to see last night, and hopefully it will serve as a great learning experience for him. I think he has shown enough natural attacking qualities that warrant him being given more time to develop as a half forward.

he dosnt realy have any kind of exitement about him and dosent realy no were to lead and what to do with the footy
You make bogy look like a spelling bee whiz!! ;)

Time for you to go to www.tinyspell.com & download a spellchecker for free.

Beware, if you're a poor speller (like me), I beeps constantly but does make you aware of a mistake & fixes them for you. Not advisable if you are a teen who uses MSN messenger (as my daughter constantly reminds me).

P.S. Don't take the above too seriously, I'm just having a larf, God knows I need one after last night. :D

I am a Lions supporter and i watched the game last night on tv, in regard to 2 of our former players; first Pask, you guys were pumping him up last week and he has shwon some great signs pre-season...last night he almost obtained a very serious knee injury and was pulled from the ground. From all replays he was very lucky not to be out for the season.

I thought his effort to make that tackle and then to later come back out was a credit to his ticker. He will no doubt complement your depth but the only reason he had the night he had was due to suffering the injury very early in the 2 nd quarter.

Baird is a very talented player, great leap and a good size. There is no doubt he has shwon he can play at that level. Once again is early in the season and needs to find a spot which suits. All the best for the season and we were very lucky last night. Your best 22 easily is better.

You remind me of some bloke I heard on the radio late in 2005. He praised Clayton's work for selecting Travis and said he would be the perfect replacement for Grant when he retires and will play 300 games for us.

That wasn't you by any chance was it? Probably not given he didn't come across as a yank, but you'd probably be the type to share his thoughts.

Not sure why Baird is being singled out?
He is a second year player at the club.
I was more disappointed with our so called second tier leaders and experienced players.
Eg Ray, Boyd, Cross, Power, Robbins, Skipper, etc. They didn't step up.
Thought only Higgins could hold his head up.
Anyway it was the BS cup.

....And you kind sir in return would be the type that makes rather loud and irrelevent noises in the absence of anything intelligent to say?

I don't see how you could possibly try to make the case that I think Baird in any way shape or form is on track to replace Grant from my comments??
I just don't think that his performance or his place on the list deserve to be questioned in such a nasty & utterly unwarranted and totally negative fashion.

There can be no doubt that Travis would be disappointed with his performance in the 2 NAB games.

I can't think of a game he played down back at Werribee and Eade starting him in the backline in these games was obviously an experiment to see if he would relish the task of playing in the back half.

It is safe to say he was completely lost back there and it seemed to effect his confidence.

I see him as a third tall, if the Bulldogs ever go that way and his form has justified him a game at the time.

However, there are more opportunities for him down back and if I was in his shoes I would be pestering Ax to play me in defence at Werribee.

The fact that he kept presenting and trying to take them on - things I'm sure Eade would have told him to do (afterall, it was only a practice match!).

He has good hands, he has a good shot on goal, he just needs to play a bit deeper leading out to about the 50m arch. I don't think playing him on a wing, or around the middle - where he was at times - is his best spot, and it probably put more pressure on him than he was used to.

Pask and Baird were the worst on ground tongiht.
Pask because he just looked out of it. and Baird because whenevr he got it he scrweed up.

looking forward to saying goodbye to the amateurs and bringing bak the big boys.
Outs: Baird, Pask, Lynch, Harbrow, Addison, Skipper
Ins: Darcy, Murphy, Hahn, Johnson, Griffen, Coooney, Akermanis, Grant

I thought the lad went ok the other night - looks a player to me:thumbsu:

Knee jerk reactions starting already. Oh dear. I suppose Cross would have been given the same treatement too at some time, given he took time to establish himself as a player.

I guess we'll let the fairweather suppoerters have their rant and we'll see how the season pans out.
