But most times it would.Anyways hall's punch only look bad because of maguire. If maguire had of got up straight away the punch would have been seen as just a tap and hall wouldn't of had to face the tribunal. Gardiner took a full swing.
Hall was lucky the tribunal wasnt led by the Uncle of a current WCE player.

How could the Didak case be ruled as in play, the ball was being taken back to the centre square. Besides that the points Hall got were exactly the same as Didak.
So moral of the story is if you are going to give someone a love tap make sure the ball is in play and that you at least considered to be in play under the current AFL rules.
