As long as we know that "triggering" means more to the vulnerable than the "comfortable..."

Trigger - or content - warnings have been found to be ineffective at best, and at worst, they actually prime the reader/listener to have a reaction before the actual content in question is even displayed to them, making them often worse for the person than being ambushed by it. Those warnings are one of those all-too-common things that people do because they want to do right (or be seen to be doing right) but are actually making things worse. So I can totally get why trigger warnings for some topics are a good idea
How are they being ambushed by it when they're being warned lolTrigger - or content - warnings have been found to be ineffective at best, and at worst, they actually prime the reader/listener to have a reaction before the actual content in question is even displayed to them, making them often worse for the person than being ambushed by it. Because until the warning was given, there wasn't a thought given to said thing. How are they being ambushed by it when they're being warned lol
So give a warning so people have a choice not to continue the story/video = too triggeringBecause until the warning was given, there wasn't a thought given to said thing.
For example, pretend you are deathly afraid of spiders. Until I said 'Watch out - this thing has spiders', you weren't thinking about spiders. But now you are, and now you are primed for (or possibly even have) a panic.
It is what it is. You can't protect people from everything. So give a warning so people have a choice not to continue the story/video = too triggering
No warning and letting people read/watch without warning = too triggering
Yeah, I can't see any issues with this /s

I wonder if trigger warnings may be driven by those showing the video to mitigate against potential lawsuits (in an environment such as the USA for "failing to disclose that material could distress me therefore pay me for pain and suffering)For what it's worth, this backs up what ShanDog is saying above:
probably a more meaningful/ informed use of a trigger warning (informed by her own lived experience)I knew a woman who was the victim of some serious abuse as a child. She became an artist and some of her art was aimed at dealing with her abuse. She used to post trigger warnings when she was promoting her art and on the door of her shows.
Yeah, exactly.probably a more meaningful/ informed use of a trigger warning (informed by her own lived experience)
This doesn't make much sense. How is it related to the topic? The worst thing is, if you are someone who modifies your behaviour eg voting and campaigning based on what your side has told you the other side is like, you are gone.
I’m many cases ( let’s use ‘... I am too foolish to read the site rules’ here but it applied both ways. )
Most of what has been pinned to leftardry does not in fact exist. But witness MAGA. They hate a construct so much they will overlook the clear signs that trump is a poor choice
