Not really sure on some of them, been basing it off J Play rankings, what I've seen voted for on Facebook shares, what I've been told by others they voted for, popularity on commercial radio, triple j Album of Year to an extent and the general big bands/artists get multiple entries logic. Will probably change it up in a few weeks once I gauge reactions to current list, see further voting trends etc.

It's the first time I've tried something like this, open to suggestions on songs being too low/high and ones I've missed, but be gentle please ;)

Here's my 10:

Dcup - I'm Corrupt
Seth Sentry - My Scene
Jack White - I'm Shakin
Ball Park Music - Coming Down
The Bamboos - I Got Burned (ft. Tim Rogers)
Alabama Shakes - Hold On
Courtney Barnett - History Eraser
Latch - Disclosure
Tame Impala - Elephant
Alt J - Tessilate

A couple of things I noticed in the list kbuck

Blue jeans is not on the JJJ list so won't get in. Neither is child by 360.

Angus stone won't be top 10.

I also think lost and thinkin bout you will finish much hire than pyramid

just coz a song isn't on the shortlist (YET) doesn't mean it won't be added later or get in the countdown anyway. Just few years ago "Wheels" by Foo Fighters wasn't even played on the j's in 2010 yet made the H100 anyway.

Last year I had Kanye west - fellows in paris on my original list but removed it because it wasn't on the triple j list. It still got voted in though.

thinking about chucking in a top 10 list with bulk frank ocean such is my love of the album,
obviously some more songs deserve to be included ahead of some of his work,

but just need to tip the scales in his favour, can never have too much frank ocean

Hey guys, I need your hand

I love Triple J, it's the only radio station i listen to
But i rarely listen to the radio, I listen to my iPod almost 100% of the time

I want to do my research for my favourite songs of this year and some new stuff to add to the playlist so any suggestions for stuff that will likely be in the 100 this year in my kind of genre's

I enjoy soft melodic electronic music, lyrical based music, dubstep and drum and bass, and poetic aussie hip hop

Bands like

Two Door Cinema Club
The xx
Allday
Kid Kudi
Knife Party
Hermitude
360
Bloc Party

Are some of my current bands i expect to appear in this years Hottest 100

or anything with sounds like

Ou Est Le Swimming Pool
Example
Nero
Tim & Jean
Architecture in Helsinki
Bag Raiders
Dodge & Fuski
Ed Sheeran
Foster The People

Any suggestions?

I'm pretty sure even though it's not in the list that Gangnam Style will be in there somewhere.

I have 25 songs on my shortlist and it will be hard work to get it down to 10. Will probably have to only include each artist once.

After 1200 colated votes this is the top 20 so far, but 1200 no where near enough to make many calls.

How do you have access to that info thewitness?
Sorry, if you missed last years prediction discussion. It is just my collection of votes posted by people online through various different sites. In the end it turns out to be a reasonable way of predicting the outcomes, but I'm not claiming it to be perfect. And by no means is it official or anything.

hey kBuck, I posted a predic list at the top of the page, what you think? Obvs we have some differences but also quite a few in the same areas.

Doesn't really use all demographics that will be voting though. Only music lovers would post their top 10 online. The vast majority of people that dont take their music as seriously and its just something to do wont post online, and are more likely to vote for more commercial songs.

People say that every year, but it generally works out pretty well. Better than any other prediction system i've seen. Last year it was better then any one else prediction here. Stats are back in last years version of this thread if you won't to look.

bar the alpine song, that's a pretty terrible list. not saying it won't happen but just a reflection on a terrible year of music. even i'm having trouble putting together a decent top 10 list.

Just had a look mate! Hard to argue with those results from last year! Good job by the way.

Do you think this year is a bit more even regarding favourites? Top 20 probably look similar but positions could change a lot? Lookin at last years seems like after the top two songs you managed to get most of the top 20 there but positions were a bit different?

Also very surprised not to see gold on the ceiling or I will wait in the top 20 at the moment. Thought both were locks for top 10. They hovering just above 20 at the moment?

Yes there are no clear standouts this year so the predictions I'm expecting will be a bit more over the place. I wouldn't read much into those 1st set i posted, 1200 votes isn't enough to get any real conclusions from. Aiming for around 5000 again to get accurate predictions.
Now from around 1900 votes Gold on the Ceiling is 11th and I Will Wait 23rd.

DaRenegade - Pretty good looking list. It certainly is tough this year. I think Surrender will be higher, maybe push the top 20. I also think Oblivion and Latch will get up there too. I'm thinking of making my own full 100 prediction. It's daunting, but it'd be pretty fun to compare how every did after the official countdown is revealed. I'll aim to do it sometime early in the new year

thewitness - Is your aim 5000 votes or 5000 voters? If it's voters you deserve some kind of medal for that feat.

Merry Christmas!

Thanks for the analysis again thewitness.

Two questions if you have time, whereabouts are: Sweet Nothing + Bangarang? Also, did you find that any certain genre seemed to do better last year than your voting analysis showed? For example, did dance songs seem to go higher then what you had expected or was there no noticable difference between your vote gathering and the actual votes. Cheers.

Looks good to me. We have only about 15 or so songs different I think. I think every song on your list has some chance of making it in. Although I hope the Kanye West songs you have listed don't make it though :p. But that's simply personal bias.

I think the some of the toughest songs to pick this year will be those by Tame Impala.
