lets all listen to aussie hip hop, go to festivals, wear festival sunnies, try and outdo each other with our cool knowledge of shit underground acts, rip on anything that isnt shit, be complete try hards, get shit tattoos, claim anything australian must be good and just be all round try hard, gimp, quasialternative ******s.

man i hate jjj so much

commercial radio is a disgrace, but jjj is just as bad.

used to be a good alternativem but now it can just get ****ed

i reckon one out of every 100 songs is decent, if that

anyone backing up jjj is by association a complete ******

Got to agree with you OP, boring and try-hard. Used to be good many many years ago. So did three d (local community radio), but really now they are all shit and there are no stations worth listening to.

+1 for the haters here.
crap after crap.
and i love frenzal rhomb, but mmmmaaaaannnnnn the doctor makes me want to punch things. stick to playing guitar bro.

I'll take JJJ over the shitty perth commercial radio stations any day of the week. At least they actually play music.

It's a pretty poor station.

I have it on at work because it is marginally better than the mainstream stations.

I find radio stations are becoming a bit irrelevant nowadays anyway. I'd much rather use the internet to find interesting music.

Note that JJJ is a youth radio station not a 30-somethings radio station. A lot of people don't seem to bear that in mind.

Good point hellboy. They are the youth network which I think means they are aimed at the 17-25 y/o market. I haven't listened to them for any stretch of time since the great **** THE POLICE - NWA debate of 91 (I think) so I probably shouldn't judge the shit they play now but I think I can safely assume they are rubbish for old ***** like me.

there is a window each day for decent stuff
9am - 12. zan rowe knows what's going on.

apart from that i won't turn it on apart from sunday night's cause you have the new music show (all new stuff, stays away from the tripe they thow on high rotation) and then there is john safran.

yeah it's gone down the toilet.
but like jrussel said. it's not really needed now with the internet and all

I pretty much stopped listening to Triple J when Mikey, Paul McDermott and the Sandman left the breakfast shift back in the late 90s.

I don't think it's just because I've gotten older either, the music and presenters were so much better back then.

Radio is pretty much dodgy all round these days, but JJJ is probably the best of the worst. I rarely even listen to RRR these days, unless you catch the show you like, I almost find it to be too alternative. Get your music from the net, burn cd's, listen to your pod and you will not need to complain about radio stations.

We've had this discussion before.

I think JJJ was at it's peak in the early 90s. Coincidentally that was when I was in high school. All my school mates agree.

Those born a decade earlier think Double-J peaked in the 80s.

My brother (10 years younger than I) think it peaked around 2000.

"Kids of Today" still think it's the best.

....

I'd say that they have their target market pretty much spot on.

It's not a matter of them going to shit. It's a matter of them staying up with current trends, and us...well...nothing is ever as good as it was at 16.

Just speaking generally the music has gotten better since 2006-2007. Not talking quality of music or anything, but in those years the top rotation songs were getting played three times a day from breakfast through to the end of drive. Or maybe I just noticed it because I was working outside with JJJ always on...

Now with Unearthed (would love to see the BF pessimists try and talk this down) there seems to be more diversity in the songs played and I check jplay.com.au quite a bit and I don't really seem to see too much repetition, aside from songs getting replayed on SR.

The current announcers suck, apart from Lewie. His relaxed work-experience style really works for me. Don't really like Zan. Her voice kind of annoys me and she always speaks in an overawed tone as though the song she just played was the greatest song she's ever heard. She always refers to the weekend as well. 11am on a Wednesday is too early to reference the weekend. But, by far, the worst is The Doctor. Simply cannot stand the way he emphasises and draws out the pronunciation of every second word.

I'm 23 btw.

whoops, I mean

Im also a massive Frenzal Rhomb fan and feel a similar way (although the Jay and the Dr show wasnt so bad).

I got into JJJ again around 07, listened to it alot the next couple of years and have slowly faded to the point where now I only really listen on friday arvo's when Amanda Shalala and Sam Simmons come in. And sometimes short fast loud or Dr Karl.

I think the introduction of the 'specialty shows' (short fast loud etc) has just seen less diversity during the day

Otherwise mighty sick of the same old indie/aus hip hop/electronica rotation that seems to go on. And the Breakast hosts suck. Prefer to listen to ABC 702 Sydney really.

Can not really be bothered arguing but there is simply no better alternative. I really quite enjoy listening. The music often isn't the music that I listen to a lot at home but sometimes there is some crossover.

Through TripleJ unearthed Triple J really does great things for Australian music, that simply can not be argued against.

And jrussel, if you listen the new music show on a Sunday evening, you see that Kingsmill is far from illiterate when it it comes to music.
