Without looking it up (if possible).

In a particular year, the All Australian team included (only) one Hawthorn player and five other players that either had previously played for or would end up playing for Hawthorn.

1) What was the year?

2) Who was the Hawthorn player?

3) Who were the five others?

I'll go with 1988.
The Hawthorn player selected was John Platten.
The other five players selected that had or would play for Hawthorn were Terry Wallace, Steve Malaxos, Paul Salmon, Tony Hall and Greg Whittlesea.

Spot on TM.

Couldn't believe it when I saw that. Doubt it has ever happened before.

Didn't Tony Hall play with us in '88? Without having the records in front of me, my recollection is he played in the '88 flag and then did his knee in the state game in '89.
Either way, it is an amazing stat. I also didn't realise Greg Whittlesea was good enough to have been all-Aus, given his few games for the Hawks.

According to wiki he was with Glenelg at the time.

I assume he moved to us in the off season and Collins brought him down in his first year with us in the state game.

I must admit, I also thought he was with us in 88.

Also according to wiki, our Premiership Team in 1988 was:

FB: Collins Langford Ayres

HB: Maginness Mew Tuck

C: Dipper Schwab Hall

HF: Wittman Brereton Kennedy

FF: Abbott Dunstall Morrissey

Foll: Dear, Buckenara, Platten

Int: Greene, Pritchard

Me thinks Wiki is a littled confused

Hall's first season with Hawthorn was definitely '88. From memory he played every game and polled very well in the Brownlow.

Greg Whittlesea was all Australian?

STFU, that takes some prestige away from the award.

Hall 100% was with us in 1988.

Being a Sturt tragic for many years I can say that Greg Whittlesea was a lot like Rick Davies from the late 70's early 80's in that he just left it too late to go to Victoria

Past their prime & the Hawks just didnt see what they could have done

This revelation that Hall was playing for Hawthorn in 1988 puts a question mark over the original trivia question of this thread. How is it that he made the All Australian team in 1988, not as a Hawthorn player, yet plays in the Hawks premiership side?

Hall 100% was with us in 1988.

The 1988 AA team also included:

- David Murphy from Sydney

- Mark Mickan from Brissie

- Danny Hughes from Melbourne

From 1953 until 1988 (inc) the All Australian team was selected from the Australian Football Carnival.

!988 was the AFL/VFL Bicentenary and the carnival that year was played in Adelaide. All players represented their home state irrespective of where they were playing at that time.

The official All Australian Team was
NSW: T Daniher - D Murphy
NT: M Long - M McClean - M Rioli
SA: A Hall - D Hughes- S Kernahan (Capt) - M Leslie - B Lindner - T McGuinness - M Mickan- J Platten - G Whittlesea.
VFA: T Wallace
VIC: D Frawley - G Healy - S Madden - P Roos - P Salmon - D Weightman
WA:S Malaxos
SA G Cornes (non playing coach)

I have Italicized all players with a Hawthorn connection - five in total.

Whittlesea 1991
Hall 1988 to 1993
Platten 1986 to 1997
Malaxos 1985
Salmon 1996 to 2000

Hall and Platten played in the 1988 Grand Final.

To the best of my knowledge T Wallace is not Plow who was at the Western Bulldogs in 1988. Would love to be proven wrong on this.

Sources are many;mostly the AFL Record Season Guide 2012, AFL official stats and personal notes.

Adelaide Hawk. Many Croweaters in that side. Did they win the Carnival?

Edit to above;T Wallace was our Terry.

The selection criteria for the VFA that year included any player who started their career in the VFA. Plough met that Criteria.

Now, how many premiership players came out of that AA team?
