TSL licenses 2014

Have heard mind you only second hand that a Hobart Football Club official thinks that North Hobart will walk away from the Merger with Hobart for the SWL Licence at the last moment and will just go to have a team in the SFL in 2014?

Half right, North are not showing much interest in the new team, with Hobart doing 90% of the work(very frustrating and bloody annoying for the hobart boys)
Norths board and supporters are certainly more interested in keeping the demons alive in 2014,
its called having 50 cents each way
They know that Hobart is committed to the SLF, so why not let them do everything ,and then reap the rewards

Scenario for 2014 and beyond:

NHFC continue to have a junior chapter (auskick to U/18's) and manage to field a side (or sides) in a lower league.

HFC only have a senior presence in the new city team. Limited junior chapter.

On present form it is reasonable to assume that there are very few HFC players in the new city side.

In several years if the HFC component do not have "their" players in the city side, will the volunteers still wish to be involved in the new side?

.

You would think that the majority of the players would be from NHFC seeing as they obviously have the stronger list. As Hobart will not be fielding an SFL side, their players who don't get picked for TSL have to either play for NH in SFL or go elsewhere. With no presence other than a half share of the TSL licence HFC realistically cease to exist anyway.

AFL tas have already been told by the Devonport FC they will not be participating in the state wide league beyond this year and will be returning to the NTFL. AFL tas have assured them they will then create a new license.

The new team is Hobart City Football Club
Lets say:
12 players NHFC
10 players HFC
10 recruits
32 players to play in the snrs.

So one fine sunny saturday afternoon NHFC play New Norfolk at North hobart Oval (SFL )
At the same time Hobart City football club play Glenorchy at KGV (TSL)
which game will attract all the old North supporters????
me thinks they will stay at NHO
the new club will only have a small supporter based, based on players families and friends
and the Hobart fc faithfull

It will be an interesting year in 2014 for AFL Tasmania.

It appears from the previous posts that there will be 3 new clubs starting up next year.

I hope their expertise and resources are first class as they will need them!!!

So it look's like Devonport want a new "entity" made up of themselves East Devonport. Latrobe and Ulverstone formed for the SWL, while they drop back to the NTFL. gee I wonder how the Devonport Council feel after baling them out and now see the club wanting to go back to play at a lower level.

The Boys at AFL Tasmania might have to cancel there usual mid week game of Golf at Royal Hobart this week !!!

Are you able to back up these statements with any facts.
Very interested in your comment that Hobart is doing 90% of the work, maybe you could explain more.

Which SFL club would be the new city license feeder club if NH do not have a side in the SFL.

I am on the fence with this so am more interested as to why you are saying these things.

Isnt there reps from both clubs at the new club? by 90% of the work do you mean? reap the rewards? what is hobart actually bringing to this merger?

Apparently Hobart are cashed up, because the sale of properties e.g. Brisbane Hotel that’s what they bring to the merger $$$$.

On the other side of the table North Hobart want to have a team in the SFL and keep their identity, and are apparently dragging their feet when it comes to the New SWL team.

This is going to end in a bloody big mess! The competition changes each year, there is a new team starting next year that nobody knows anything about, but... They have a coach but no players no support staff and no supporters ( kingborough) and to top it off, AFLTas are controlling 50% of two new teams in the same competition.

What a farce

My 2c worth is that maybe AFL Tasmania could control one new club entering the competition next year Maybe at a stretch but as it stands now there is potential three new teams coming in 2014 - Kingsborough, Hobart and now Leven (Devonport), not mentioning the potential pushing together of South Launceston and South-Prospect. Where are the players support staff and supporters going to come from for three Brand New Football Teams?
I cannot see it happening so Ding Dong State Wide Football is Dead again.

Football in this state will always be in trouble with Scott Wade as it's General Manager unfortunately he is seen by the Football Community and public as toxic, his
Achievements are appalling IMO the death of SWL mark 1, Tassie Devils at first successful and then the shooting in the foot of this team supporter base, the North Melbourne alignment, basing the team in the south (all Northern support lost) and the final nail in the coffin D.Creswell appointed as coach and now the SWL mark 2 tinker tinker tinker......
Amazingly he has been in the Job since 1999. If he was head of a Corporate Business he would have been gone 10 years ago at least.
There is only one man who can move him on, and that is Andrew Demetriou and we all know that is not going to happen.

If he was in a proper corporate business it would now be insolvent, just the fact that they receive blank cheques from the AFL, to execute their hair-brained plans.

It's a shame the Tassie Devils are gone - the VFL supporters liked them in the comp and enjoy the once a year trip to the Apple Isle.

I remember being at York Park in 2004 when around 5,000 people showed up for a Saturday night elimination final between the Tassie Devils and the Bendigo (Essendon) Bombers.

Bring back those times I say!

CrowdedHouse In 2004 the Tassie Devils were a standalone club, the problems for the team began at the end of 2005 when AFL Tasmania entered into a restricted alliance agreement with AFL club the Kangaroos. Then also by telling the players they needed to be based in the South of the state this fractured support in the North. By their last season there average crowds which were very good in the early years of the club of 4000 which you experienced back in 2004 at Aurora fell to only 1500 at Bellerive oval and just on 1000 at Aurora stadium in 2008.
AFL Tasmania then decided to go back to a Statewide Competition which started in 2009 and has been tinkered with ever since,

So will the new North-West team be called Devonport or Central Coast or something else?

Resitor If it ever gets off the ground I reckon you would not have Devonport in the name (Twice quitters of Statewide football). The Central Coast name might embrace Latrobe -Devonport-Ulverstone region better.

Weren't AFL Tas pushing Devonport to change their name to Mersey or something similar a while back? I would imagine the created club will have a name like that.
This continual tinkering in club affairs; Hobart, North Hobart, South Launceston and Devonport at the least; may well be part of te reason for deciding to pull out.

Tasmania absolutely needs its own league, and not be whored out as part of another state as the Devils were. But whatever structure, it needs brand new management. Its been disaster after disaster from the mid 90s onwards, but has been the very worst over the last decade or so.

There is little to no corporate governance in AFL. Very few CEO's in the private sector would be able to run a company the way Demetriou and Wade do without being called to task by the board of a company.

Clubs must obey orders
JAMES BRESNEHAN | May 30, 2013 12.01am
TASMANIA'S 10 State League clubs have been guaranteed $1 million each over the next 10 years if they sign a new licence agreement on one major condition -- they do everything AFL Tasmania tells them.
It's easy money for the TSL clubs, but to get it they must obey strict guidelines laid out in their new agreements, covering 2014 to 2023.
Under the terms of the new licence, clubs have been offered twice the existing grant amount from AFL Tasmania.
Tasmanian football's governing body has promised to up the ante to $100,000 per year -- double the dough given to clubs over the first five years of the competition, which kicked off in 2009.
AFL Tasmania has also promised to try to secure more money from the AFL, which it pledges to use in part to further increase its contributions to the TSL club coffers.
The latest draft of the Tasmanian State League Licence Agreement, obtained exclusively by the Mercury, details AFL Tasmania's commitment to the clubs and its expectations in return.
Under the section six headed "Funding", the clubs are told in Item 6.3 that they must follow a "four-part funding process" to the "satisfaction of AFL Tasmania's chief executive [Scott Wade] and general manager State League [Shaun Young]" in order to get their money.
The four-part process consists of the categories Strategy, Structure, People and Programs.
The document says: "The four-part funding process must be strictly followed in the order outlined above and AFL Tasmania-endorsed planning templates and documentation must be formally accepted by both parties before any funding is committed by AFL Tasmania".
It goes on to say: "It is AFL Tasmania's intent for the club to access the full amount of funding offered -- all the club has to do is to co-operate with AFL Tasmania and fully commit to the implementation of an AFL Tasmania-endorsed Club Future Directions Plan."
Put plainly, it is AFL Tasmania's competition and to get its licence renewed -- the current licences expire at the end of this season -- clubs must comply to all demands in the Licence Agreement.
Clubs who do not comply will be given 21 days to right their wrongs, or face "termination".
On the bright side, the licence documents tell the clubs that: "AFL Tasmania may, if it is financially viable, increase the funding amount".
Clubs must also keep meticulous accounts and provide the name of their auditor and authorise the auditor to be quizzed by AFL Tasmania.
The Licence Agreement document also:
Bans clubs from signing sponsors that conflict with AFL Tasmania's sponsors.
Commits AFL Tasmania to helping clubs obtain major sponsors.
Bans clubs and their players and officials from gambling on games in which they are involved.
Says AFL Tasmania will continually consult with clubs on ways to make the competition better.
Outlines that AFL Tasmania will work with local councils to get venue improvements or new facilities.

Gives AFL Tasmania the right to grant new licences or change the number of clubs with a majority vote by clubs.

this was in the mercury, no good asking them to print anything worthwhile as James Bresnehan and Adam Smith are Clarence supporters, so will not upset wade

This is my concern "Gives AFL Tasmania the right to grant new licences or change the number of clubs with a majority vote by clubs."

Does this mean having a 10 year licence agreement is worthless as far as the stability it is meant to create?

Thats right worthless, they just had a 5 year agreement , and Wade destroyed that much during that 5 yrs. He spent $500,000 of tassie footy money on the kingston grounds, (regional at best ) wiped out the reserves competition
Nearly wiped out the Hobart fc .who are the strongest financial club in tassie. ,cause they refused to move to kingston to cover Wades stuff up ($500,000)
Just about wiped North Hobart fc out
Allowed Clarence fc over the 5 yrs to exceed the salary cap
need i go on
the presidents wanted the 1o yrs thinking it would save them from what had happened in the previous 5 yrs. i fear not .same old dictatorial crap

ps its not wades money its the footy communities money!!!

Just read the 'Muckery' newspaper. Says North Launy are 'discussing' leaving the TSL over their position on Aurora & the changes at South Launy. Its also clear that some South Launy people arent happy to merge & move, nor are Launceston who could lose a chunk of territory. Thats the same thing here with Hobart & North Hobart. I know some Hobart past players will have nothing to do with the merger & that they control the money that AFL Tas might want to use?? North Hobart volunteers dont want change either.
We've heard that their will be changes at Devonport too.
Where does that leave the other clubs & the future of the league?
