In freezing conditions at North Hobart, Clarence kept its unbeaten streak alive, eventually sneaking clear of Hobart to take a 34-point win in the first game of the double-header.
The Roos jumped the Tigers with five unanswered goals in the first term before Hobart hit back in the second and third quarters to keep the contest alive without ever really looking likely to hit the front, the margin got to within about 10 points in the final quarter but the Roos were able to conjure enough opportunities to run away to a win.
Clarence don't look half the team they were two months ago, missing a number of good players and that was Hobart's big chance to keep in touch with the top six, but the opportunity went begging and finals look a distant place now for the Tigers as they sink to eighth and face Devonport away next week.
In the second game of the day, North Hobart thrashed an undermanned South Launceston by 108-points.
The Demons looked strong early with Paul Allison looking menacing up forward, in the second quarter the Demons unleashed 4.11 to the Domain end and should've been much further in front.
South Launceston finally broke the drought in the third quarter, after being stuck on 2.2 (14) for what seemed like eternity, the Dogs booted four for the quarter. There was a sickening collision out in front of the Cazaly Stand with three going down, a South player looked in dreadful trouble there.
North did as they liked in the last quarter, South being held to a single behind for the entire match to the Gorringe Stand end while North bombed another five to win easily and climb up to third.
Despite being a double-header, the crowd was not a great one - it was very, very cold day, maybe 800-900 at the most.
At KGV, Glenorchy went two games clear of Hobart in the top six with a 63-point belting of Lauderdale.
The Bombers would've gone into that one with some confidence after winning there earlier in the season, but Glenorchy had other ideas and have now strung a couple of good wins together to get themselves ready for a crack at finals action.
Burnie pulled a major surprise in defeating Devonport at West Park by 15-points.
The match had been built up along the Coast all week, but sadly, the crowd was a pathetic one according to ABC Television's on the spot reporter.
The young Dockers jumped the Magpies early and had gotten out to a 24 point lead at the long break, Errol Bourne's men then made a strong charge in the third quarter and got back to a 2-point deficit with one quarter to play.
In the final quarter Burnie ran away with a 4.6 to 2.5 effort to take out a 15-point win and now, unbelievably climb to within a win and percentage of the top six, leap-frogging Hobart.
Devonport, after a seven game winning streak have now lost back-to-back games and sit in fourth.
At Windsor Park, Launceston did the damage in the first half against North Launceston.
The Blues led by over six goals at half time before a Bomber fightback occurred in the third quarter and into the last.
North were missing Darren Crawford in this match, they got back to within a couple of goals in the final quarter before the Blues steadied to seal the match and take away a 21-point win in an unconvincing display.
