if you don't have foxtel you screwed
Why? I don't have foxtel, but I'm happy walking to the local for games.
Still the same number of games on free to air. They're just LIVE.
Holy crap. HOLY. CRAP. What a terrible deal.
1. Still limited free-to-air live broadcasting - only 3 games per week will be live <--- Absolutely JOKE. We are in 2011, not 1981.
Yeah. What were you expecting? 9 matches live free to air?
3 free to air live is terrific. We can put up with one on delay.
The delayed match will often be at the G or Etihad, so why not go?
not much has changed for the Dees since 1981. Your team is as good now as it was then.
2. 90 minute fixed delay for Saturday matches (I guess 7 is moving Better Homes and Gardens to Saturday afternoon?). I mean, is this still how things are going to be run? Still? FFS.
The AFL are trying to maximise their TV revenue so they can prop up sides like yours. If they didn't have to, maybe they'd be able to get 7 to do all 4 live.
3. Every game live on Foxtel (that is a real embarrassment. Absolutely shocking. Live on Foxtel, not on free-to-air -- so much for sport LIVE on free-to-air. Who started the whole initiative anyway? Doesn't seem to have worked).
Really embarrassing? How many live matches were on free to air in 1981?
Before 1987, it was only the Swans every second Sunday.
Every game live on Foxtel... well Fox are paying over $500million for it, so I guess they want some content.
4. Online streaming exclusive to Telstra customers with a mobile phone. League is still backwards. Still no online league pass? Get a clue, AFL.
5. New Foxtel channel that you will need to fork out $80 per month for
In other words, if you don't have Foxtel, you're going to get the same shit delayed broadcasting you've had since forever.
Don't watch it then. Your teams serves up the same shit footy.
This year we get 4 matches Free to Air in Victoria. Only rarely are they live.
Next year we still get 4 matches free to air, but 3/4 of them are live.
If you can't see improvement then you must be watching the Dees.
Given that this deal is meant to take us five years into the future it occurs to me that:
Despite having a multitude of new digital FTA channels we dont get any extra footy.
Simply addressing the glaring faults from the last five years is hardly forward thinking for the next five years.
The AFL have addressed their own agenda of having AFL available in prime time in their growth markets.
Well there's an extra match every week for a start...
NSW, ACT and QLD big winners.
SA and WA big wins on being able to watch all matches. Too often you get situations where you can't watch Essendon vs. Carlton, but have two ways of watching Port Adelaide vs. West Coast.
SA and WA also have improvements with reduced delays. Disappointed they didn't get Friday Night live into SA. It's tricky in WA, but should definitely happen in SA.
VIC win too. There's the same amount of footy on Free to Air and much more of it is live. There's much more of it on Fox where it's all live too!
