Vickery smashed NicNat in the Under 18 Grand Final also. This kid will be a gun in time. Quickest over 20m at the draft camp that year out of everyone too, not bad for a 200cm ruckman

Not quite, he had a good time of 2.94 seconds which was equal 12th at draft camp that year. Still a pretty quick time for a big bloke, pace and agility is certainly not a weakness.

Rhys Stanley seems to have similar abilities, though the Saints wouldn't play him in the ruck in a fit at the moment. ( We didn't use an early pick on him either ).

but you did on kosi !!

True, we could have gotten Alan Didak, but then again we could have gotten Luke Livingstone.

I wasn't picking on Vickery too much though.
As I said earlier, If you look at what Saints first round pick from the year before, Ben McEvoy, thats the level you should be expecting Vickery to be playing next year.

The only question is whether its better to "blood" your young ruckman, or let them develop in the VFL a bit longer.
I guess the Tigers were probably hoping Simmonds would last a bit longer, because you aren't really in a good positon to rest Vickery if he comes up sore or slightly injured. We've seen other young rucks ( McIntosh , Lleunberger ) have the develpment prolonged due to early injuries.

Which is why it's good that Angus Graham is taking the #1 ruck role for us now and is doing far better than anyone expected. He's the big bodied crash and bash ruckman that will protect Vickery's development.

difference = 7 picks

age
Watts = 19, 2 months
Vickery = 20

whats your point?

Point is your club had a chance to take, Naitanui, Stephen Hill, Michael Hurley and even Jack Ziebell who has all shown more then Watts.

Yes i know hes young and is a KPP, but the fact is he is soft and hasn't shown much in his time playing at the top level.

watts has played 8 games

vickery has shown less than watts

yes all those players have shown much more than watts, tbh that doesnt concern me with watts' limited afl exposure

if next year he is still performing similarly, then i will be worried

The Saints bid for Ayce Cordy with their first round pick. ;)

You wanted to draft a potential number one ruck like Vickery, Naitanui or Cordy in that draft.

Ok, buddy.

Put a c*ck in it mate!
Your bias is getting annoying!
gb:eek:

to be honest thats what i think every time you sign off..... with gb:eek:

... he has shown less than watts,

not that watts has shown much at all, just that vickery has shown less (albeit not much less)... i am happy to be proven wrong if you can show me evidence that vickery has done more

its ironic that so many richmond supporters are willing to dish it out to other young KPPs but are prepared to grant their own much more time (not just referring to this thread) i think vickery will be a good player, and as a KPP should be given time to mature

regardless of the fact that watts was taken at no.1, vickery was at no.8 which is still a very high draft pick and needs to start performing to it (although nowhere near as much as watts does)

tpm:eek:

Vickery plays ruck... surely that is a harder position as a 1st/2nd year player than playing as a third tall??

definately, vickery has a hard job and has shown some encouraging signs, my original comment was intended to be ironic, and obviously one richmond supporter decided to have a go at me.

Watts is not always playing as a third tall though, against carlton, true, he was played on by Walker and for some small time thornton

however against collingwood he played on Presti/Maxwell (only for like 5 minutes though)

WCE he Glass spent some time on him, etc.

to be honest i am not disputing the fact that vickery will come good, i am disputing the difference in expectations for two top ten, young, key position players... that is all

Is ruck that much harder than 3rd tall?

Mind you, Vickery wasn't still in high school last year like Watts was.
He has age and experience on his side in this argument.
But it's a stupid argument.

I see absolutely nothing wrong with Vickery's progress.
He'll be a great ruckman but people need to be patient with the big guys.

I think it will be at least another 2 years until we see what either of these boys are really capable of.

vickery is about where he should be for a 2nd year ruckman/fpward
last year he was behind riewoldt,schulz,pattison in the foward line & simply got the occasional run in the ruck............ due to his size & being a 1st year player. i expect vickery to be somolar to brad ottens.

jack watts has had a slow start to his afl career & understandably with being at school last year & all........................but that was last year
this year he has played similar amount of games to astbury which is almost the exact age,size,weight type of player.

with 12 months more of an afl club training & coaching behind him you would expect him to have shown alot more so far, not saying he wont be a player but doesnt so far look like being what he was hyped up to be before the draft.

but still very early days & anything can happen when these 2 boys add another 10-12 kgs on their frames.

but if i were buying.............................natunui please !
