Tyson Goldsack's Development

Is still right in the mix and still young enough to improve enough to crack a few games this year.
A depth player at the moment but its only an injury or suspension at the wrong time this year to Maxwell, O'Brien, and Reid, and Goldy becomes very important to us, never forget that.

If you could keep only one on our list at the end of 2010 who would you prefer to have?

Ben Johnson or Tyson Goldsack (or any other starting in the 22?)

Johnno is playing probably his best footy, can chop out through the middle if we need and runs the lines very well. Was very much missed when he went of against the Demons in round 2. Would play 2011 at the age of 30 and possible have another 2 years left.

Goldsack is young, tall and quick. Can play tall or small and would take out the 3rd defender quite easily. Has the potential to run the lines and IMO is very good defensively especially one on one. Never gives up and fights hard to win the footy. He is currently 23 and will turn 24 in 2011.

Johnson may have his age against him if you're looking into the future, but Goldsack has 'The Soup'(Tom Young) and blight developing well in the twos.

Probably won't come down to these two, but what do you do if you're MM, Bucks other than try to convince Goldy to stay?

I have no problem with Goldsack and he is one I would say is very close to senior selection when available and fully fit.

At VFL level the games he has played so far this season have been very very good. There is never a great deal of difference between his form at AFL and VFL level anyway. Always gains great confidence once he gets back into the senior side and strings a series of games together.

He will get his chance later in the year.

Don't dismiss him just yet. Will be one of our "30".

Never rated Goldsack, shocking kick... Harry O is killing it off half back at the moment as well so we don't need him.

Where is Goldsack??

I have been down to the VFL the last 3 weeks and haven't seen him.

He's not on the injury list.

When in form I would consider him to be in our best 22.

Re: Where is Goldsack??

Wasn't he ill with meningitis early in the season and came back to play 1 VFL game before disappearing again? It would seem likely that his disappearance could be related to this, wouldn't it?
I personally think that he is an untapped (as yet) talent and would love to have him back in the side, especially when we are up against the hard bodies of Geelong.

Exactly who at Collingwood doesnt have a hard body? Our senior side and especially the backline has quite a bit of experience behind it now. The only two who still have a fair way to go in the physical development department are Steele Sidebottom and Cameron Wood, and to a lesser extent Ben Reid to physically has made huge ground in the past season or two.

As much as I'd love to see Goldy back in the side like everybody else, physical presence isnt the reason.

I'm a fan.

Honestly believe the Sack & Presti are the best defenders not in the team at the moment. The Sack is injured but that aside, even Presti can't break into our defence at the moment.

Agree with some others that the Sack could develop additional strings to his bow such as wing, midfield tagger or HFF.

The alternative for the Sack is that guys like Young & Reed & Keefe & Carter & Hunter will just pass him by.

Where are you guys getting this crap? I remember Tyson giving Michael O'Loughlin a bath in his first game....well I think it was Tyson's first.

Anyway, the kid has only played 45 games at this point....hasn't even got to his 50 yet....and he hasnt turned 23 years of age yet....geez..

Unfortunately, I think he might go to Gold Coast for an opportunity to play and he will definitely get a game. I just hope he hangs around.

If Tyson is reading this thread, forget about the comments at the top... if those guys knew anything about football, they'd be coaching a team.

As soon as he and presti are fit, out go toov and brown.
Goldsack is like a taller - better Toovey. nomnomnom

Too good for VFL but is not quite good enough (at the moment) to be a permeant fixture in the seniors. Would like to keep him beyond this year because he definitely has the ability and intensity to be a quality backman.

He would make a decent rangey full back if he could build up enough bulk to handle one on one's better.

His pace and reach are quite good.

But he seems to be like Maxwell in that he will never be a tank.

Good point, however I see that if he increases the tank he has the ability to be a Nigel Lappin type rotating midfield player.

BUMP

Hi Guys - just thought I'd bump the thread.

Since I originally posted this - he's come back into the side - and with ongoing injury has managed 5 games.

The last few weeks in particular have been quite reasonable.

Any chance he'll hold his spot when Shaw comes back - I guess he's fighting for a spot with the likes of Toovey - and perhaps Blair - shoud Shaw push up to a wing.

Thoughts?

I certainly hope he does. Probably my favourite player, or equal with Swanny and Steele. Think he is a fantastic player, and have nothing but admiration for the way he plays football. Unfortunately, I feel he may be competing for a spot with the captain, so we know who will win there. But definitely on form, and talent, is worthy of a spot in the 22. I think a reshuffle of positions (like you said Shaw to midfield) is better than dropping Goldy.

Really really hoping he doesn't go to GC.
