Nice article on Hine Bastion
The Guildford Grammar graduate, who is part of West Coast’s next generation academy, has impressed for both the Demons and WA as an over-aged prospect.
Dyer felt the 18-year-old always had the athletic attributes, but has improved the defensive side of his game to be a shining light for the Black Swans across the practice matches and under-18s championship-opening loss to the Allies.
The Eagles have priority access to Hine-Baston, provided he falls outside of the top 40 picks, while they can also add him as a category-B rookie if he is overlooked by the other 17 AFL clubs in the national and rookie drafts.
I’m liking the game of Hine-Baston at the moment,” Dyer told The West Australian.
“He’s got a really good balance, he’s defending really well and giving us a bit the other way with his offence as well.
“I reckon he’s going pretty well. He’s always had acceleration and high speed with ball in hand but he’s just become a lot more reliable with his ground balls and his contested stuff.
“When you marry that all up with his athletic attributes, it makes him a bit more of an appealing prospect.
“I think throughout our practice matches and also round one, if he wasn’t really on a radar before he’s probably playing his way onto it.
“He’s been a positive for us, no doubt.”
