Jabba, never said they don't have an influence, every act by player or umpire has an effect, although the player has greater control over said situation

All I have ever suggested is no game has been won or lost by an umpire error
They have influence but have never, ever, been responsible for a team winning or losing a game?

Not sure that is even possible.

Which bit..
The bit about them not having any influence over the result of a game, yet they have influence within a game.

If they can impact a game, they can impact a result.

For me the umpires have seemed to have lost the basic free kick method that was so simply adjudicated in past years when it came to incorrect disposal, dropping the ball or holding the ball...
l’ll share some examples from this weekend and the year so far of the types of simple decisions that are not being officiated correctly... These are the ones that bug me...

Player receives ball is into his kicking action then is perfectly tackled around waist player then drops ball from hand onto the ground, should be incorrect disposal Umpire calls he made an attempt play on... wrong decision..

Player gathers ball gets run down tackled one arm pinned bought to ground free arm with ball hits ground spills out drops ball, incorrect disposal Umpire calls play on... wrong decision..

Player with ball had prior takes game on is tackled and spun tried handballing misses contact ball drops to ground, incorrect disposal Umpire made an attempt play on... wrong decision...

Player with ball had prior takes game on is tackled in the act of kicking ball misses foot no contact drops on ground, incorrect disposal Umpire play on... wrong decision...

The other rule is the no genuine attempt rule where a player contests or wins the ball is immediately tackled with no prior and wrapped up by one or even two opponents has absolutely no way of giving the ball off, should be a ball up, Umpire no genuine attempt... wrong decision...

So you think the have impacted a result? Meaning they have been the difference in a win or loss?
Absolutely. How a game is umpired can influence how a team plays. An example:

A couple of years ago we were struggling against sides that would bully our players at will. Casboult went in to bat for a couple of young blokes getting repeatedly hit and held off the ball including Cripps. The umpire then paid the following:
1. A free kick down the field because he hit the opposition player "too hard" as he kicked the ball out of defense. Not late, just too hard
2. A free kick against and reported for an open handed push to the chest of an opponent who had hit him high in a ruck contest. Not a punch, a push
3. A free kick for "attempting to throw the ball back too hard". Not even in the ****ing rule book

As a result, the opposition had 3 more scoring shots, Casboult went back into his shell, Cripps was held and scragged at every subsequent contest and the team was beaten. The umpire directly influenced the result with their interpretations and style of umpiring.

Not for a minute suggesting the umpires deliberately try to skew results, simply have no delusions that they have zero impact on the result of games due to their actions or inaction.

Umpires are all cooked, I have never seen a good one. Why would you even become an umpire? Coming up through junior footy it was always the nerd kids who couldn't play.

The umpires in the afl should be ex players or state players who didn't make it. Pay them 250k and make them full time

With an attitude like that, why would anyone ever want to become an umpire?

The standard of umpiring is shit house. I really think it should only be open to ex state league and afl players. Pay them a serious wage and make it full time.

umpires are all cooked - I have never seen a good one - gee whiz.........they'll be losing sleep over that - thinks more money makes for better decision making.......riiiight.........next
The nuffies they have now aren't the best decision makers full stop. They are the best decision makers that can run 12-15kms a night. There is your problem
