Just on the weekend, the umpires came in and told us the new rule had been abolished. That was about the only good thing they done on the weekend. I dont know if they have something against Bunyip, or what it was put paid 12 frees to 0 in the third quarter and in the last a player tapped a rushed behind through to be given a goal, it must have been embarassing for them out there. Does anyone else think the standard of umpiring is dropping while the standard of footy is increasing?

The rule is still in as far as I know chuck. Yet to have one given in one of my matches though which is good. Can't say I have a problem with the umpiring so far this season. Just respect the umpires, realise they are going to make mistakes and just get on with the game. I am sure they are not purposely disadvantaging Bunyip. In the end things should even out.

I was actually impressed with an umpire in our game v Nyora. A Nyora player barreled into the umpire at top speed and then on the way down shoved him with two hands. Would not have been surprised to see the player cop a lengthy suspension but to the umps credit he just got up and got on with the game.

We play the only game in the world where rules are changed season to season, week to week or even day to day. It's crap. Utter Crap.

Papa changes to the game are necessary to continue the development of the game. When football first started it was on an oval 2 miles long and was played till the first goal was scored. All the rule changes in the AFL over recent years have improved the game as a spectacle IMO.

The rule that is being debated is exactly the same as what the AFL introduced this year.

In the event of a down field situation the free kick will be taken where the ball landed or 50m from where the incident took place (whichever is the greatest advantage). NOT BOTH

Typically with most things to do with this league it was implemented incorrectly with the umpires being instructed to pay down field and then 50m. It has now been cleared up by the league and there should be not further problems. It'll just come down to how the umpires now police it just like any other rule.
