Go Sharks!!
Back to back, all credit to the coaching staff hey HBK?? we might just give abit of credit to the players...maybe!
well done to the boys, hopefully they partied hard because they deserved to.
if anybody from the club decided to go and watch the Pies instead of enjoy the Premiership festivities...well they would be feeling pretty bad right now wouldn't they??

for the non-sharks in this forum (not many...LOL) would like to know your thoughts on the game. was shannon ball a worthy winner? give us your thoughts.

Well done Sharks, clearly the best U18 side when all your players were available.

What's the chances of a Brisbane Lions type threepeat??? How many players go up to Seniors next year??

have people had the bnf's for the clubs? who has won for there team?

and am i right to say that tullamarine was the only team sydenham did not beat this year? haha :)
like even though sydenham lost to teams they got revenge on them later on.

youre right about tulla and youre also right that it was impossible to get revenge because they didnt make finals!

Tancredi, Abela, Ball, Ahmedi not 100% sure of the last 2, but I'm pretty much certain of the first 2

Ball actually gets a 3rd year....

Congrats to syd hillside great game better side on the day by far will be intresting though to see what happens with u18 on monday night all presidents have a special meeting called by the league to vote on age of u18 comp with many asking for u17 comp and u19 comp

Not sure wha tthe leagues obsession is that the under 18 comp needs fixing. It's the best it has been in years, less teams forfeiting etc. They have bigger issues such as the amounts of money being thrown about.

All they need is a division 3 under 18 comp for the teams with extra players, they would be stupid to do anything involving clubs 18s and seniors being at different grounds (another idea they are throwing around ie. grading games)

Just leave it as is, the most I would do is make it under 19s, not 18.5's.... and certainly not make it 19.5's. This gives teams with older players too much of an advantage. Sydenham made other finals teams look like little kids in the finals with their size advantage.

DON'T HIT THE PANIC BUTTON, 18s FOOTY IS IN PRETTY GOOD SHAPE.

How likely is any change to actually occur?

I agree with a later few posts, its probably un reasonable to jump to conclusion or 'hit the panic button'. syd/hill was a rare team that dont come round often enough to foce a change, if the finals hadnt have been one sided than there would be no complaint and there would be praise bout the year!!
Much the same though, i think the U18s was a great success this year!!!

I agree with someone who said to have a 3rd division!!.....but the only thing is that, prob fair to say you would need to drop a whole senior club, not sure how 3 divisons would work with no senior teams to follow....FRIDAY NIGHTS???

anyway its always a good topic to chat about, personally i would leave it the same......but a change is always good, on the basis (obviously) that it would work!!!

Something from totally left field: Do yourself a favour if you like music, espically hard rock/heavy metal......by the NEW metallica album "Death Magnetic"

Friday nights would only be an option for teams with sufficient lighting. If teams have a third division team they could work the fixture so that when the first under 18s team plays at home (with seniors) the division 3 team plays away and vice versa.

As well as the fact there were a lot less forfeits this year, I found the comp was a lot "cleaner" than other years ie. less off the ball stuff, less melees.

Well done to Sydenham on their year, big strong skilled side. IF they can keep those boys together they will have a good core for the seniors over the next few years...IF.

Great choice of words mate, just because S H dont play cheque book football, and they and T L and Roxy are developing young talent (and Jacs too for that matter) leave it be.

Any thoughts from the coaches that post here on this topic?

DO NOT HIT THE PANIC BUTTON!!! Leave 18s as is.

I said a very similar thing in my last post......it happens where clubs are too strong come fianls time.....you know what thats footy!!

im my opinion there are prob too many teams but that is the only thing im not happy with!....games played at the club and an opportunity to play seniors, is good insentive for a low budget club.....the fortunate thing is syd/hill have 10 players that are in the best 21 at there club.....and when given the opportunity they played in there seniors....some more than others, but nether the less they had the opportunity to play seniors!

Leave the comp as it is......need to worry more bout making the seniors a fair playing filed, with great respect to all u18 enthusiasist (i am to).....its only u18s, look at the big picture!

MOST sides are developing young talent. I wouldn't be getting too carried away with the UNder 18 success of SH, TL and RP considering the large number of players they have access too in growth areas. The reality is, they should be the teams to beat. It's harder for many other clubs drawing on the same resources ie. Paco, Glenroy, Northern, Hadfield, Oak Park, Strathmore all being so close to each other in "older' areas.

As for Roxy not playing chequebook football, I know a few blokes that were playing there over the last few years and even they admit they got paid 'overs'. Eventually no matter how many talented kids you bring though, you gotta dish out some coin. To compliment what you already have as well as to keep them from walking.

As far as I know the age requirements are staying the same with the introduction of a Division 3 competetion made of the the 'second' teams of clubs with sufficient numbers.
division willa nd should not happen. I have been involved in this the last couple of years with abers. pre season we start with nearly 50 but realistically you need about 60 for two teams.
we had lots of injuries this year and played 39 players if there was a division 3 team it would be a joke and clubs will stuggle to get enough helpers to make the competition run.
let alone umpires as edfl struggle to give two umpires a week to under 18's.
in theory it is good and trhe clubs would benefit because of fees but i think it is a long way off and the edfl is not that keen on it....

Much better to have some sort of a reduced comp, less numbers etc....club umpires than having 20 kids at a club missing on a game each week. I think you will find the EDFL are very keen to keep young guys playing the game and will do whatever is necessary to make this happen.

i have been involved with this the last two years and been working closely with the president of abers trying to push this but the EDFL has not wanted to do. the EDFL said last year if we got 6 teams they would consider the teams were abers, keilor, stathmore, hadfield, douttas and pascoe vale and cant remember if greenvale were involved. If abers had fielded a second side we would have had only 10 players availbale after round 2 i dont see any bonus in playing 10 players a side. I understand it keeps players involved but why cant they go to clubs like Marby park, avondale or some B grade clubs that are stuggling??? I know it is not that fair but if they love the game they should take some friends and help those clubs out....

How is everyone looking for 2009. Are SH going to be strong again this year. How about Jacana and Hadfield, showed a lot of promise last year and the mail is APW are picking up quite a few, including a couple from Westy and Roxy!!! Hopw about Taylors Lakes and Roxy, bound to be strong again and dont forget Westy who had a lot of first year players last year.

Great post, isnt this about kids playing football and clubs not being greedy. Sure pick your best 30 then alert kids that they will struggle to get a game in there best team and send them to other clubs who need them therefore making both grades more competitive. It is all about keeping kids in the sport and not losing them. It seems to get harder and harder each year to keep kids at the club. Agree that clubs should be doing more at the U 14 and U 16 levels so they push them onto the U 18,s, so therefore the Clubs should take a lot more responsibility when they are appointing Coaches at this level and should have a pathway that intergrates them into the next level so its not a such a sudden jump.

went and watched abers vs tulla last night tulla will be hard to beat in B grade. Abers won comfortably by about 6 goals but tulla will be good in the B grade comp

westy lucky to have a side at all this season - had a mass exit, only a handful on the training track - all boils down to keeping last years coach on after it was said that if he coached again boys would walk - say no more!!!!! can't ask u16s to come up because they have been rallied to "C" grade and also have had a mass exit of kids.

i was from roxy under 16's, i left and went to westmeadows. they have plenty of players for 16's now and will be very strong this year. Roxy under 18's are strugglingg highly doubt they will a ful side, some 16's will come up but they will struggle
