Very well deserved win,
Taylors boys came out not ready, not on their game and got out classed. Congrats to haddy boys

Thought I might bring this thread back to life as we hit finals time.

Has been a pretty good comp with 5 good sides in the mix right up until the end of today's games. In the days last round all sorts of scenarios were up for grabs. 3rd placed Craigieburn could finish as high as 2nd or as low as 5th, 5th placed Hillside could finish somewhere in the top 4, Taylors Lakes could stay 2nd or drop to 3rd.

In the end West Coburg finished top, Craigieburn 2nd, Taylors 3rd and Hadfield 4th.

The big winners were Craigieburn who not only claimed the double chance, but who will also get back 4 players who have featured in the Eagles senior side for a few weeks now.

Finals start next weekend at Windy Hill with West Coburg playing Craigieburn on sat and Taylors playing Hadfeld next sunday. Both games start at 9.30.

Just putting it out there will the 2 players burners get back from seniors make the difference of a full strength west coburg

So those 2or 3 kids are that good or that the burners are the better side do u not think they will struggle a bit adjusting the 18s style of play after playing seniors

I guess we will find out saturday. I'm tipping the Eagles by 18 points. You?

Agree burners by 23

I think both games will be very good contests and will probably be quite similar.

West and Haddy both play very physical type games, but also have game breakers in, Martini, Zammit, Karaan for WC and Silvestro, Gray, Moustafa and Jess Inzillo for Haddy, while otoh the Eagles and Taylors play more of a running game which I think will suit those sides if they use the wide open spaces of Windy Hill right.

Having said that, I think Hadfield will beat TL by 12 points.

Game 1 out of the way and the Eagles win 88-68 with an outstanding 8 goal 3rd quarter proving the difference.

Real tight early with the Eagles holding a slender 5 point lead at 1/4 time and West a 6 point lead at halftime and then wham the Eagles got their running game going and it was close to all over. Credit to West Coburg though as the fought back hard, but the Eagles had done enough to hold on.

I've really got to give a wrap to a kid who is seldom mentioned when it comes to higher honors. For a few weeks now Callum Langborne has been outstanding for Craigieburn. With 3 goals and a presence all around the ground he was easy BOG.

I was close and agree callum Langborne was bog but I think the burners back line held that game the whole game todays match will be interesting and both clubs had representative watching the game

The Craigieburn back six is the very reason they were first into the GF. Tough, solid unit who work hard for one another.

I see Haddy had a comfortable 10 goal win today and will face West Coburg in what should be a very bruising encounter next sunday at Greenvale.

Moment of truth this sunday for West Coburg and Hadfield down at Greenvale in the U18.5 Div 1 Prelim final as both sides look to earn the right to meet Craigieburn in the GF on the 7th of september.

This game should make for compelling viewing and a good reason to get down to Greenvale early.

When it comes to big names Hadfield have the advantage with Calder Cannons listed Michael Tang, Cannons U17 development squad member Judd Brewster, last years best in comp, Abdul Moustafa, plus the highly respected Steve Vocale heading their line up. Chuck in goal scoring freak Luke Silvestro and the under rated Matty Gray, and you start to think the Hawks might just win.

A positive for the Burgers is, Hadfield don't really possess anyone who can contain Wests main man, Jesse Martini and both Anthony Zammit and Ahmad Taleb were dangerous against the Eagles. A lot of pressure will go on their lesser players.

At the end of the day I just think Haddy will be just a bit too strong and win this game by between 5 or 6 goals after a real hard hitting contest early.

Game kicks off at 9.30.

Ok so its burners v haddy but what an interesting game today was. Haddy were lucky they really struggled to kick straight in front of goals

Yea, it was a real bumble-a-thon in which no team looked like they really wanted to win.

Couldn't for the life of me understand why West kept kicking high into the wind at that left corner of the ground in the last quarter. Were just inviting Haddy to have multiple shots on goal. 5-10 to 6-17. Hard to pick Haddy's best simply because nobody stamped their authority on the game, which probably isn't a bad thing, but I thought Conor Doherty was easily West Coburg's best.

Agree was a but sorry to see wc lose the plot a bit zammit sent off I think has he kept his cool with martini firing they could have snatched the win umpiring was a bit hit and miss too

So here we are. U18.5 Div 1 Grand Final. The final part of a journey which for most of these young men started last November at pre-season training. Kind of appropriate the two teams who probably contributed most to their senior sides are playing off for the big prize.

If anyone is looking for a high quality game to watch this fathers day before spending time with the family, then this game is not to be missed.

Craigieburn have beaten Hadfield twice this year, but both times the sides were without key players. I touched on Hadfield's danger men last week and they remain the keys again if the Hawks want to win. Tang, Moustafa, Brewster, Vocale and Silvestro, will, I expect be the keys in Haddy's attempts to win back to back flags. If they can inspire the likes of the Inzillo brothers, the dangerous Kaakour, Gillies, Gray and Sabatino, then it could be a long morning for Craigieburn.

For the Eagles, who will have many players playing in their first Grand Final, never mind finals series, so much will depend on their imposing back 6. In Falcone, Hardstaff, Tabe, Khoury, Gorgievski and Da Riva they have arguably the best defensive unit in the comp.

Having said that, it's the Eagles dangerous midfield which will hold the key to any Craigieburn victory. Ruck-man Dom Micallef will ensure plenty of ball for talented on-ballers, Nathan Perone, Josh Smith-Thompson and Shaun Stewart to feed Langborne, Laffan, Stevens and McKeown in the forward line.

Plenty of options for BOG on both sides though they usually come from the middle, so the crafty Moustafa, goal sneak Silvestro from Haddy or, the high leaping Langborne, the speedy Stewart or gutsy Micallef from the Eagles.

Should be a beauty with plenty of fire early on. I'm tipping the Eagles by 18 after a titanic battle.

The only thing I think that will stop the burners will be nerves, if they can overcome them then I think they will get over haddy. Your right there is only 1 or 2 of the burners boys that have played in a grand final but this team needs to go out as a team and play like one Good Luck to both teams but I think its Craigieburn by the slimest of margins. And as a side note was a bit disappointment to see all eyes on seniors and no real support or notice of the ressies or 18s theses boys have fought just as hard to play this week end and without these teams seniors couldn't play would like to see some respect givin were I think its due
