I love that they tried to sell their inability to choose between 3 equally supported names as a decisive and bold step forward. Feeling a lot better about the draft picks they're getting. They're bound to stuff them all up.

"GC" I would imagine, maybe "GOLD". Port Adelaide are inconsistently abbreviated as either PA or PORT.

The rumour monger in me agrees that opting out of a nickname leaves the door open for a current club to relocate and keep their nickname...
Still its happening, so good luck to them, will certainly be interesting times. In the rugby states it took a long time to get the swans and lions accepted into the psyche, so patience must be afforded these guys too. Will be very interested in the next year to see what happens with the 18th licence as well, will be tough to continue to afford so many consessions to gold coast and the 18th mob at the same time...

Have't seen the show over here yet, but good on them if true.
I hate nicknames for clubs.
We are the Fremantle Football Club, or Freo for short.
I will never refer to us as the Dockers.

Anyone know why MelbourneFC dropped their mascot in there logo ? Could this possibly happen to all the clubs in the future and maybe that's why Gold Coast went for this ?

The colours of Red, white, blue and yellow. Basically Brisbane Lions colours with yellow
Strange decision to pick no nickname. Even stranger choice of colours. The mascot is worse than Freo's and Port's put together.

The club doesn't come in until 2011!!!!!! And you want to judge it as a fail or not.
Marlins is a good name. Guards/Ray = Homo names. LIke the guy said, a name will develop.

Point is there is no strong Identity yet - In fact the gold coast has no identitiy at all so no surprise.
if they had said marlins or something ALL the peopel posting in her would be saying "Crap nickname - be better off with no nickname'
Most of the good ones in the AFL evolved anyway so whats wrong with that ?

Yeah well i personally think clubs should drop the mascot in their logo's not only because it looks dodgy (see geelong and hawks) but seems to be more formal of a club to just have FC. Don't get me wrong clubs should still have a mascot and be referred to the 'cats/hawks/etc' but looks bette with it not on the logo. But that would mean changing logos... hmmm bad idea

Firstly, I think you meant "with white"
Secondly, looking at the mascot, it seems like a bright yellow and a bright-ish red, rather than gold and maroon. The blue also seems quite bright.
Though you make a good point in that they are similar and from a marketing point of view, may prove to be confusing.

Tasmania have been crying out for a team of their own for many years and the Gold Coast serve up this piece of tripe! I'm not impressed and judging by most of the replies on here and the expected reactions in the coming days and weeks etc.. I should think they will go back to the drawing board.
