lol at comparing Krezja to Lyon. 8 wickets or not in India he was an atrocious bowler.

So what does that make Lyon?

He is no better than Hauritz - stats back that up.

And a greater liability with the bat and in the field.

You've been spoiled by Warne mate, before he came along spinners in Australia were generally unprepossessing sorts who held up an end, and got some wickets from time to time, Warney changed all that. You could argue we're back to the usual status quo with regard to spinners in this country.

Nathan Lyon is grossly over rated and shit.

Adam Voges has a better first class bowling record FFS.

Lyon finally did something and took a 7-for in Adelaide, and suddenly he's god's gift to spin. Crazy Krejza took 8 wickets in a innings on test debut (12 in the match) and got dropped. And that was against the likes of Tendulkar, Dravid and Laxman. Lyon couldn't even remotely pull back a Pakistani team with half that class.

Like it or not he's the best we have. There is a need to play a spinner in most test. We've been spoiled for choice over the years with some of the greats ( grimmett, o'rielly, benaud, warne) as well as very good ones (Mailey, Johnson, May, mallet). You can't expect to consistently churn out champions and Lyon is better than serviceable especially considering the quicks australia has at it's disposal. He's still relatively young and will continue to mature.

Fwiw though I agree with you on hauritz, was given a poor run and in the end dropped for a terrible bowler ( Doherty). Bit more defensive than Lyon but was a better bat consistently contributing handy runs at 9.

If you ever want to sit me down and explain it let me know.

I watched Nathan Hauritz consistently miss the rough at the SCG, which was the size of an open cut mine, while trying to bowl out 9,10, Jack against the Saffers when Smith broke his hand and they almost saved it. He was rubbish and that should have been the end of him - he was never going to get better conditions and completely failed to use them. Agree that those couple who followed him were no better though.

At least Lyon can hit it, and turn it when he does. I also believe Lyon is bowling a bit "smarter" these days, and that won't be real popular around here I reckon.

Why the f*(& doesn't Lyon ever bowl over the wicket. My knowledge is sparse so a serious question. What his obsession with wasting valuable time and overs trying to turn it half a mile back when he could go conventional and open up more modes of dismissal.

I hate it when people criticise others over an isolated incident. Don't you think its possible he left because he might have something more important to do?
Hence why I said 'my personal experience'. 99 times out of 100 may have been the other way round. Need to remember though that this was an official Blues function organised by their major sponsor the Nsw roads and maritime services authority. Part of being a professional is that you support the sponsors and keep a smile on your face whether you want to be there or not.

It cracks me up that everyone is supposed to get around a bloke that they don't know just for because? What was Hughes meant to do, invite him over for dinner? I subfielded for a first grade team at a new club when I was young and I was just happy to be in the change room let alone if any of them talked to me.

I really didnt expect anything of anyone but Warner in particular was brilliant. All I see is negatives about the bloke, but in my tiny personal experience he was a true pro who got a fan for life in my boy
