Squillaci's is laughable but the others were actually decent players at some point.

Yes arshavin I can understand. But some of the other highest paid players is ridiculous and a disgrace given it impedes us from buying and paying for actually decent footballers. Diaby, almunia, chamakh getting an approx £200k a week is ludicrous

djourou getting £50k a week?! good lord i missed that the first time i read it (had already fallen off my chair about the squillaci/diaby/chamakh etc figures)

can we pay djourou an extra £50k for him to NOT play again?

Sad to say, our club is a joke. The wage structure shows this.

The club isn't "a joke". It's going through it's toughest period in the Wenger era and needs to get rid of some dead wood but it's in a strong financial position and still 4th in the league.

Some perspective and support instead of slagging off the players/manager/club would be a nice change.

And chamakh looked the goods during his first few months. Something must have happened to him and nasri during new years eve 2010/11, as both of them had an average second half of the season last year

Initial sale prices: Cesc £29m

This one irks me more than any other trade we've ever made. I still cannot fathom the (complete lack of) logic in selling this player so low. It has had a massively dramatic effect on our downturn. Hell, Fabregas still had three seasons to run on his contract at Arsenal - he was signed until bloody 2014.

I have no doubt that this deal has been the most grievous error that Wenger has made in his time at the helm. I believe he put his own relationship with Cesc above the needs of the football club, to the obvious detriment of Arsenal's fortunes this season and beyond. I'm a massive Wenger fan, and I hope that I'm wrong, but I suspect that this deal will be the defining moment in the demise of Arsene Wenger as manager at Arsenal.

I said it loudly before the deal went through, and I stand by my assertion that we were truly rubber-gloved by this appalling transaction.

The wage structure is an absolute joke, and it'll take a while for us to get rid of the deadwood due to it. Who's gonna sign Squillaci and pay even half of what he earns here? I guess the AST meeting notes really show the need for us to play UCL, will be very interesting to see how we play against the Spurs after the past two matches and this.

Got to disagree here, i think wenger felt cesc heart was in the wrong place and being captain and the soul of the team, he knew it would effect the whole team and there could be problems in the dressing room. Also cesc paid 3-4 mil to arsenal so he could leave.

Yes if cesc was being sold on the open market, we could have got £40-£50m for him. But given it always going to be barcelona by either being sold or walking out on a free, we had to cut our losses and sell him (although I thought the fee was £35m not £29m?). Anyway I might be wrong

Difficult situation to be in but everyone knew it was just a matter of time before he left. Barca also played it well, citing his hamstring issues etc as a way to devalue him against our asking price

I thought Cesc had refused to play for Arsenal and demanded to be sold.

I'm adamant about this. Many players have refused to play, or so it is claimed. But a club needs to stick to it's guns if it truly values that player. Just two years earlier Cesc Fabregas took on the captaincy, with almost 6 years remaining on his contract at Emirates.

Making him sit out of football for a season, with two years still left on his contract, might have had got Cesc re-considering his options. ManCity are currently doing it to Tevez.

In regards to the Cesc sale, he wasn't going to go anywhere else and if we held on to him, his value would have only decreased and he would have eventually left on a free to Barcelona anyway.

And I think it was that kind of defeatist thinking which enabled Cesc to leave so easily. He was worth more than £50m, yet we decided to move him onto a club who has been our biggest rival in Europe for just over half that amount. It was a fire sale on our best and most important player, and simply makes no sense.

How comforting to know he's paid Squillaci's wages for us this season.

Super injunction.

Agree. I still think he can play a part. He's always capable of one or two great moments every match which might get us a few points.

He scored twice in the reserves game the other day as benno mentioned. Hopefully can bring some of that form into the premier league

Chamakh went off with an ankle injury. Afobe scored back from injury as well.

I believe it was a toe injury or something that he's had since the ANC? He apparently only lasted about half an hour in the reserves game
