It’s interesting. Watched the Liverpool game. Two occasions within a few minutes both Robertson and TAA pick up the ball after a foul and walk away with it. I would have thought that is delaying the restart under the letter of the law.

What, so you mean there’s an alternative to the “ref had no choice!” rationale? :D

The next few weeks are going to be a fascinating test for Arteta.

For better or worse, Arteta and Edu chose to focus on first team quality at the expense of squad depth in the transfer window. Those chickens have come home to roost way quicker than anyone could have predicted.

There has been a lot chatter around what midfield Arsenal put out tonight, and throughout the next series of games once Rice returns. The reality is there is no plug and play option, whatever changes occur will need a change in tactics.

My criticism of Arteta has always been he is a goldilocks manager, everything has to be just right. We saw a title challenge capitulate two seasons ago because of two injuries. Last season he had a very fortunate run will the key pillar all available for basically every game, Jesus aside. He did adapt the Havertz role with great success, but we have not really seen him challenged tactically since the 2023 collapse.

Will be interesting to see what he does. There is a real risk our title challenge is dead before September ends if he doesn’t respond.

Partey Jorginho double pivot it seems. I guess they’ll be expected to play the 90+ minutes. Jesus back in the squad. Calafiori and Zinchenko out with injury.

That bench, wow.

Havertz and Trossard interchanging with each other has proven very successful, they’re a handful together.

Would’ve been great to have say Calafiori on the bench as he or Timber off the bench can really provide that stability in the closing stages of the match. Partey has played every minute so far and for Ghana, question mark whether he and Jorginho can see out the entire match here. Let’s see.

Martinelli seems the best threat in behind however just not finishing it off with his end product. At some point he and Trossard will likely make way for Jesus and Sterling.
