Quite funny seeing Kamara on a yellow kick the ball away and give kavanagh no choice because it’s the letter of the law and he has to send him off right. And then. Nothing.
Amusing all game watching Villa players knock/carry the ball away on Arsenal restarts, with Emery being the only Villa person carded for it.
No choice, letter of the law and all that.
I know people are angry with Partey but that Watkins goal isn’t about him being a good right back or not, he should be tracking his man regardless of position. It’s criminal.
Totally agree with the constant position changing having an effect on your natural instincts too.Yes it doesn’t look great on the replays. He’s aware of Watkins however then steps forward. It just wouldn’t happen with Timber and Saliba in that corridor.
What I will say about the Partey at RB situation is that this kind of stuff can happen when you constantly chop and change his position and duties. Every few days he has to adjust from RB to the 6.
That move he makes, to motion forward, that’s probably instinctive because as the 6, he knows he needs to protect that space in front of the box to negate any chance on the rebound, playing the ball out etc. But in a split second, as ridiculous as it can sound, he perhaps forgot that there’s no one else behind him, no cover, he’s the fullback to track the man and defend the ball.
Squad balance again comes under the microscope. We have 46 options at LB yet frequently have to resort to Partey at RB? I’m of the view that Kiwior should step into centre half, Timber at his best position at RB, but then again Mikel and all his specifics doesn’t like two left footed centre halves.
Just can’t shake that feeling that so much has to go right for Arsenal, so many variables, we work particularly hard to create/score goals and need almost perfect precision to make it happen. Then at the other end, so often concede to low percentage plays and punished to the maximum on defensive lapses.
Totally agree with the constant position changing having an effect on your natural instincts too.
Having two left footed centre backs is a huge no-no in football though. It’s not an Arteta mindset. Something about it being harder for lefties to open onto their right foot unlike the opposite for righties.
Yeah it makes more sense to just risk it and play two lefties. It can’t be that big of a deal and it’s better to play people in their correct positions that shoehorn others in.I forgot to add on the Partey thing that fatigue can also play a big part in these loss of concentration moments. He’s been playing every minute of every game almost. Same with Havertz, Rice, Trossard, Odegaard and so on. There’s not much alternative especially in attack, however the squad looks gassed at times and being run into the ground at the time of year where we really do feel the impact of all the absences and injuries.
No doubt it’s a thing about two left footed centre halves, yes I understand is not a common thing. I remember the same discourse this time two years ago with the double whammy of Saliba and Tomiyasu injuries against Sporting, and Arteta’s insistence on going with Holding. When he eventually made the change to bring Kiwior in, it really wasn’t as bad as it was made out to be. By then though, the damage was already done to the league campaign.
