I would not be expecting big things right away. Has played 20 odd games at av 14 disposals but still only 19. Plenty of upside to come hopefully.

I reckon Yeo has been undersold a little bit here. 19 YO plays 19 games in just his 2nd year and establishes himself in a team that finished higher than us. He is a good size at 189cm and is quick, something we sorely need. I would not be unhappy if we even used pick 24 tbh. (realistically, thats what we are going to have to give up if Brisbane play hardball)

Um...no. You can't play 'hardball' with an out of contract player who no longer wants to be associated with you. It's West Coast that would be playing hardball - 'give us Yeo at [what we think he's worth] or we'll grab him in the PSD'.

Which is the worst possible situation for all parties involved. Don't get me wrong, if we can keep pick 24 I'm cool with that too, but if we let him walk to the PSD it a) makes clubs not want to deal with us, and then the likelihood they will do it back to us in the same situation b) Increases the likelihood we get done over by a 11th hour deal by our friends down the road for a mid 30's pick.

I'm not saying it's a good thing to do, just that Brisbane can't play hardball really. This is very similar to the Ebert trade - we were bent over because we could either take crap compensation or none at all.

I don't actually think it would happen in this instance, but the Lions have a pick before us in the PSD, would a club ever re draft a player just to spite them?

Do they?

Why would they? It would infuriate that player, waste a pick on their senior list, and make all other players very wary about playing for them, not to mention pissing off all other clubs.

As a club we generally don't negotiate in bad faith and look to turn the screws on other teams. We generally try to be fair about things. Can be annoying as other clubs really don't bother.

Yeah thats fair enough. We definetly have the upper hand in this instance over Brisbane, although they do seem pretty keen to keep him, and fair enough too.
Ebert definetly was a case in point of that, but he did specifically request to go to Port, which then meant we had no choice but to accept the deal. Although we are in the box seat, Brisbane would not be doing their jobs right if they offer him to us only, especially if he says he just wants to go home.
@theharry, do they have a pick below us in the PSD? I thought they finished above us?

It is also a reflection of the commitment we make in the player.

If we have poached Yeo and offered him a 3 year deal, we have a duty to make sure that a deal can get done.

As much as we can say - PSD or nothing, the reality is - Yeo doesn't want to run the risk of GWS or GC signing him

This was exactly what I was trying to say, just in less words and making much more sense. :thumbsu:

Doesn't tend to happen though - look at Tippett last year. GWS could have grabbed him, but all clubs passed so that he could get to his club of choice, Sydney. Clubs don't want to take players, no matter how talented, who don't want to be there.

I agree it doesn't happen often, but it is a risk.
