I'm guessing if they have two more years like this one they won't care....

We traded away our future to some extent by trading high picks for Stinger & Chick and by indulging the errant behaviour of a largish group of our star players. That ultimately cost us Cousins and Judd. And arguably hurt our recruitment and player development for a couple of seasons....

Would we reverse all that in exchange for giving up 2004-2007? I suspect not.

If Freo win a flag I reckon they won't mind 5 or 6 years of rebuilding.

Of course they'll be happy if they win a flag. I wonder how they will feel if Ross keeps on losing grand finals though and leaves them like St Kilda.

Brisbane now stating they think Yeo had a medical with Freo. If this means he'll sign with them, it becomes a matter of the best change we can get from 24. 41 seems worst case scenario.

The annoying thing is Freo's second rounder is quite abit worse than ours so they will be more willing to give it up. We have to decide if we want him, looks like its going to have to be 24 or let him go to Freo. I'd personally spend the 24 myself, at least you know he can play and be a long term player which is something you cannot guarantee at all with pick 24. Many highly rated kids just never find their feet at AFL level.

Brad wanted to know he was a key part of the midfield going forward and the head coach couldn't give him a satisfactory assurance.

sorry for the sidetrack on yeo but i'm hearing some of this ebert stuff for the first time. my recollection throughout that season was growing talk that he was heading to port and nowhere else.

i would've watched every game that year and frankly, ebert was a bit of a frustration to me. i'm actually surprised that he's come on as strongly as he has. the yelps from his defenders was always that he was being played out of position on a hff. my position has always been that any decent footballer can make a go of it and influence the contest positively no matter where he is on the paddock (not to mention the trend towards guys who can play more than one position).

although i'm sure he could be stubborn, in a way i can fully understand woosh not falling over himself to tell brad he was the future of the club, based on what he was delivering on the field.

I really haven't seen Yeo play. Is he actually worth anything? Or is West Coast just doing their usual "he wants to come to us, so we'll grab him"?

There was tension late in the season caused by concerns at West Coast that Ebert might leave.

There has been a story peddled by many that he was inevitably returning to Port but that's simply untrue. Although once the decision was made to leave they were raging favourites.

He left in large part because he didn't believe Woosh saw him as a mid. But rather as a forward who would rotate through at times.

This was at odds with earlier feedback Ebert had and I believe it was caused in part by an overrating by Woosh and others of our list in 2011.

We ****** up big time with Ebert and he'd be a key component of our midfield now if anyone but Woosh had coached us in 2011.

I must admit to not being across Yeo at all pre-draft but I'm advised he was a good one with a high ceiling. His progression at Brisbane has been very good IMO. His physical tools are good and you can project him as a mid ... quick, tall, athletic mids with a football brain are always attractive and he isn't scared of contact ...

The reality is if he was in this draft a pick at 28 (which is about where we'll actually pick) seems about where he'd go - the question is whether 2 years of positive development moves him up or down, realistically it should move him up but in our weird world it tends to reduce value in most cases ... I think the deal is he'd be decent value late 20's and a bargain at 44 or so ... so we are trying for a bargain ...

Yeo would be silly to go to Fremantle with Lyon's stance against playing youth.
That's just a bit silly and you're opening this board up to easy potshots from Freo scumbags.

Kids like Crozier, Sutcliffe, Neale, Sheridan, Hannath have all got quite a bit of time in the purple since he's been the coach.

I can't be bothered doing a comparison to the ages of our youth, but considering they were contenders this year, we can't criticise too heavily.

This. Seems like Cale Morton with a less penetrating kick, but a better propensity to jump into a pack and get his hands dirty. I reckon if he was a mature age draftee, like Lewis Jetta was, rather than a player currently on an AFL list, he'd be rated in the top 30 easily.

Where'd you see that?

Meanwhile, homesick Lions defender Elliot Yeo has completed a medical assessment with Fremantle.
Yeo was expected to be traded to West Coast but the Eagles' offer of a third-round draft pick was rejected by Brisbane. The Dockers are likely to put a second-round pick on the table for Yeo.

Jesus I hate this club sometimes. just because Port bent us over doesn't mean we have to do the same, he is worth our second rounder and our drafting lately is ******* horrible. I don't trust us with our second pick

Settle down - nothing has been decided yet.

Yes we lost a raft of promising young midfielders due to inappropriate management and the inflexibility of our coaching staff and one Matthew Priddis.

Yes we got royally ass f**ked in the Ebert deal. That f**king downgrade in the third.

Yes we paid overs for an overrated, already matured, 7th in line midfielder with no consistency in his ability to gather numbers or hit a target. Sure he can hit a stunning flat pass every few games, but many more are complete clangers. Unlike Ebert, who would always take the team option (and understandably, the less aesthetically appealing option), Wellingham has a tendency to go for the showoff pass. When your Steve Johnson, no problems, Sharrod on the other hand.

Yes we're gonna pays overs for Yeo, or will miss out on him completely and pick up a dud in the 20's.

Yes we will pick up our obligatory spud discard, most Nahas.

No I don't have a life, why else would I be posting on BF on a Saturday night?

That's a shocking assessment of Wellingham.

I reckon you are right about that...I am very disappointed to be losing him...I don't like your chances of doing better with 24 in the draft...or ours.

I just watched highlights of Yeo , he looks ok
Good overhead , has quick hands , kicks both feet
And has a bit of pace , even though he's played half back
For the Lions , he may be good enough to put in the midfield
As a. Bonus , I'd hate Freo to get him
